Being a future educator I'm concerned that technology is going to be an issue in the younger grades. What are your viewpoints on technology in younger grades?

I believe that technology should not be overused when aimed towards younger students. It could be confusing or too much for them to handle at young ages. Technology should be introduced when they are mature enough to stay on task and wonder on to things that are not related to or not appropriate for students.

Technology should only be used for young students when absolutely nesessary. Students should not be spending all day on a computer or iPad playing learning games. Students should be spending as much time as possible learning through hands-on activities to make sure they are talking to one another and learning from one another. If they are glued to the computers all day, they will not have the social interaction that is critical to their development and growth.

I agree with you. Technology is something that can be helpful to engage the kids in the learning process, but it can also cause problems. If technology breaks, little kids are not going to understand why and they are going to grow impatient very fast. There has to be some sort of backup plan for teachers who have technology inside of their classrooms with the younger kids. There is also the concern of the kids not being able to understand how the technology provided works. This can limit their use of it, and can cause them to fall behind in their studies.

I think technology can be very useful and beneficial in the younger grades IF used properly. Technology can help students learn to read, write, do math, and learn science in ways that are fun and exciting to them. With that, it is important these students have a time limit of being on the device and do more hands on, paper activities. In my opinion, it is important these students start to learn the basics of technology and apps but not much beyond that.

Great question, Olivia! I think that considering technology is growing more prominent in our daily lives, children should have the opportunity to engage with technology from a young age. However, I think its important for younger children to have moments without technology, thus enhancing and developing their imagination outside of technology.

Technology is something that the worlds is now revolving around. you go out to dinner and 2 and 3 year olds have their own ipad and can get to an app, movie, game they want. I feel like students coming into kindergarten will know more about technology they we think they will. Also giving them the right tools to learn will help. for an example, giving them an ipad rather than a laptop. giving them something they are already familiar with and teach them along the way.

I think that there is a time and a place for technology in the classroom no matter the age group. For younger kids, I personally feel like technology should be used as a reward system and in a way that teaches students how to do important functions on a computer. I do not think that math, spelling, etc. should be done on iPads.

I feel like children are getting more and more advanced everyday. I think the younger the students the more they would get distracted or find something else on the laptop or iPad that they could do. I just feel like it would be a good thing, as they need to learn how to use technology well, but you run into the problem of young students being immature and not using it as they are supposed to.

Younger students are becoming more and more advanced as the years go. It can become difficult for teachers to keep up with the students abilities. It's great for students to learn about technology at a young age, but I feel like at times it might be taking away from the students learning. The more technology a student is given, the more ability they are given to cheat or abuse technology.
