The movement of population from farms to cities .IN the 18000 nearly 5 million people lived in rural areas during the industrial revaluation people left farms for better jobs opportunities in the north. Dirt and gravel roads turned into mud holes.

Daily life 1849

worked long hours all year round, 12 hour days, 6 days a week. poor women had to go out and work, wealthy families and women stayed home. On Sunday people went to theaters, museums circuses and shopping. Lowell girls lived in boarding houses.

Children were used to fit in small spaces around large machines to change spindles. women/ Lowell girls they moved from farms to mill towns to work in factories. They got paid low wages to send back home to there families.

people now use mechanical drill to plant grain. When the grain is done growing people had to smash it up with some tools by hand ,now threshing machine beat grain from husk.
