The act protects animals and their wellbeing. Anyone who does not adhere to the act can be fined up to £20,000, banned from keeping animals and/or imprisoned from a term not exceeding 51 weeks
The act is needed to protect the animals wellbeing and welfare
'to be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease' This applies to physical therapies as it ensures that no pain is caused during treatment and means you would need to check a horse is suitable to be treated / you are suitable to treat the horse - i.e. avoiding spreading disease
