Also called Operation Vittles, the Soviet Union blockaded all routes into the Allied-controlled zones of Berlin in June of 1948. The Soviet Union hoped that by doing so, the US, France, and Great Britain would abandon Berlin and the western zone of Germany could be unified. The Allied powers decided to respond using airlifts. The first plane, under the administration of President Harry Truman of the US, boarded important supplies, bringing it to Berlin. Bringing food, health aid, and other important things, they were welcomed in due to the negative impacts the war had on the land. Because of the aid brought from the Allies, they were able to secure air rights to Western Berlin. This ended the crisis in May of 1949. This event was a victory for Democracy, as it served as a symbol of freedom against the chains of communism.

As the western portion of Germany was being overseen by the US, Great Britain, and France, the communist beliefs of the eastern side were not as widespread in the Allied controlled areas. The Berlin Wall was a wall built between West and East Germany for the purpose of keeping "fascists" from East Germany under the leadership of Soviet Union leader Nikita Khrushchev. Construction of the wall started on August 13, 1961, under the order to stop the flow of immigration into Berlin. The wall was built using concrete and barbed wire and it wrapped around the entire city. This would have made it impossible for citizens to pass to and from the East and West sides of Berlin, if not for three checkpoints. On November 9, 1989, many people gathered around to tear down the wall and crossed into West Berlin. The Berlin Wall was a victory for democracy, as it led to a democratic movement, which ended up bringing an end to the communist Germany.

The term "Iron Curtain" stems from a speech that Great Britain's prime minister, Winston Churchill, delivered on March 5, 1946. In this speech, he states that an iron curtain has descended across Europe. This term refers to the political boundary that divides Eastern Europe from the rest of the continent. The iron curtain itself is a victory for communism, as communist beliefs were spread along the east side of Europe. But the fall of the iron curtain led to an abolishment of the communist in many nations such as Poland, Romania, and Hungary. The iron curtain led to the end of the cold war in 1989-1990.

Often referred to as the European Recovery Program, the Marshall Plan was a project proposed by the US Secretary of State, George C. Marshall (hence the name). This plan provided over $15 billion to financially support Europe after the harsh results of war efforts. The Marshall Plan was put into place in 1948. Its purpose stood not only to help rebuild damage caused by the war in Europe, but also to stop the spread of communism in the continent. It is considered to be the reason for the formation of NATO and the start of the Cold War. This was a victory for democracy, as it aided the western states of Europe (those not controlled by communist governments), and it was a tremendous success.

Mikhail Gorbachev became the General Secretary over the Communist Party in 1985. He established several new political reforms to combat prevalent economic and social issues the that the Soviet Union faced. He is said to be the cause of the fall of the Berlin Wall. His policies allowed for the citizens of the Soviet Union to speak their minds and he implemented many democratic ideologies in his reforms. The reformations he had created to reshape communism backfired and completely dissipated the communist beliefs that laid out a foundation for the Soviet Union's government. This was a huge victory for democracy, as the Soviet Union and its extreme beliefs collapsed as a result.

The Korean War was a war between North and South Korea from 1950-1953. America entered the war on behalf of South Korea, fearing that the victory of North Korea could lead to an outbreak of communism. US general Douglas MacArthur was the commander who oversaw the Asian Theater. He made a plan to free the North from the communists. At first, the attack succeeded by pushing the North Koreans out of the South Korean boundaries. But as the troops were pushed towards the Chinese and North Korean boundaries, the Chinese grew worried and warned the US to stay back to avoid another war. Despite US President Harry Truman's desires to prevent another war from breaking out, Douglas MacArthur tried to instigate a war, believing that anything short of war was an appeasement. After a letter showing his support for war against China was leaked, the general was fired. This can be seen as either a victory or a defeat for both communism and democracy. If Douglas MacArthur were to convince Harry Truman to go to war, the outcome may have come out differently. If the US won, communism would take a big blow and it would be an enormous victory for democracy. But if North Korea won, there is a big risk that communism would become widespread.

He joined the communist party after becoming influenced by the Bolshevik Revolution. He had a hand in founding the Indochinese Communist Party and the League for the Independence of Vietnam (Viet Minh). Nearing the end of WWII, Ho Chi Minh became the leader of North Vietnam. He stayed in this position for 25 years. As the US showed their support for South Vietnam, military air strikes begun against North Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh's message to North Vietname stating that "nothing is as dear to the heart of the Vietnamese as independence and liberation" became the motto for the country. Eventually, the US stopped the air strikes and peace meetings started. Ho Chi Minh passed away on September 2, 1969, before the conflict was able to be solved.

The Viet Cong were the guerilla forces that fought against South Vietnam. This name was given to them by President Diem. Many of the Viet Cong were arrested or killed by Diem's forces. In 1957, the Viet Cong forces fought back and started engaging in firefights by 1959. In 1968, a squad that was formed in the Viet Cong seized the US embassy in Saigon for six hours. This attack was planned in a very high scale at a point where fighting had slowed due to Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebrations. While the US troops focused their defence on their marine base after an attack, the Viet cong saw this as the perfect opportunity to seize the embassy. Although the opposing forces were not prepared for the attack, they were able to swiftly reclaim their territory, and the Viet Cong, as well as North Vietnam as a whole, suffered great losses. This was a victory for democracy, as the failed attack on the US embassy resulted in many deaths. This was also a victory for communism, as the devastating amount of casualties among US troops took a psychological toll on the Americans, who were growing tired of fighting.

Vietnamization was a program created by US President Richard Nixon that served as an attempt to lower the losses of American troops by withdrawing troops from Vietnam and shifting the militarial responsibilities to South Vietnam. President Nixon presumed that with the slow departure of US troops, South Vietnam would be able to defend themselves and hold out for the rest of the war. This program was created due to the American civilians, who were tired of the war and upset at the countless casualties of US soldiers. President Nixon provided programs that would strengthen the South Vietnamese government by creating social reforms and initiatives to further develop South Vietnam's economy. The US did not fully halt military activities in other parts of the world, such as the bombing campaigns and ground invasions in Cambodia (which was a neutral country). This outraged the US citizens even more, despite Nixon's claims that the invasion was necessary for the Vietnamization strategy to take off. All the Vietnamization strategy did, however, was further prove South Vietnam's reliance on the US military and government. This was a win for communism. Since the plan failed and only weakened South Vietnam, the communist powers knew they could overcome South Vietnam on its own. This eventually led to the fall of South Vietnam to communist forces.
