Since 1900 droughts have caused the death of more than 11 million people around the world. Another 2 billion have bee affected by droughts. One of the well known drought happened during World War I, !914-1917. Farmers mowed and plowed millions of acres for farmlands. Then a series of rain dried and killed millions of crops. The droughts finally ended in the 1940s. In 2011 in Texas, thousands of square miles were burned by wildfires.
