ITALIAN CUISINE

Each country has got its iconic food and the national cuisine is a really important landmark of the life-style , tradition and culture of its people. When considering Italian cooking and the healthy principles of the Mediterranean diet it is based on , we can’t but start from pointing out the huge variety of dishes, recipes and cooking styles it offer throughout our Peninsula
Eating habits and cooking techniques differ not only from region to region but also among cities within a short distance in the same region .as there is a huge variety of minimally processed and seasonally fresh locally grown food which makes the Italian cuisine genuine and not too much elaborated
The basic difference between Northern and Southern recipes is also due to the geography characterized by two dominant landscapes, The Mountain and The Sea, and to the Mediterranean climate so that extensive farming and agricultural crops of fruit and vegetables are mainly grown in the more favored Southern areas while extensive rearing of cattle, sheep goats and pigs is more used in the Central and Northern areas
Another reason for such a” diversity in the unity” is to be found in the History of Italy which is strictly linked to the history of our cuisine whose origins can be traced back in time to the 4th century B.C.
Regional cuisine is so still clearly characterized by the influence of the several foreign dominations that marked Southern , Central and Northern Italy in the course of the previous centuries
EATING HABITS Lunch is usually regarded as the most important meal of the day. In Taranto most shops close for the pausa pranzo (lunch break) between 13:00 and 16:00. In most schools, lessons end at 14.00 and pupils go home for lunch. Lunch consists of a first course "il primo" (pasta, or rice), a second course "il secondo" (meat or fish) with a side "il contorno" (vegetable or salad) and fruit. Nowadays, especially in big cities .commuters and other workers tend to eat less at home, but instead have a quick meal in a restaurant or pizzeria.

SPORTS IN ITALY SOCCER OUR LOVE, OUR PASSION Sports are an essential aspect of Italian lifestyle and Italians practice sport regularly because fitness and health are important for young people.we have decided to talk about Soccer (also called Football) which, among the several sports played in Italy, is still by far the most popular and we can say that it can be considered our national Sport. Did you know that other forms of football were played in Italy in ancient times? The earliest one was called “Harpastum” and was played during the times of the Roman Empire. This game may have also been influential to other forms throughout Europe due to the expansion of the Empire, including Medieval football in England. In Italy Thousands teenagers, not only male ones, all up and down the Peninsula play soccer in their free time and some of them train really hard because they dream to become professional footballer one day.No doubt Italy boasts a long and lasting tradition. The Italian national team has won the World Cup four times (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) and major Italian clubs frequently compete at a high level of European competitions. Every Sunday the stadiums in all parts of Italy such as the San Siro in Milan, the Olimpico in Rome among others, are filled with lots of Italian soccer fans who support their favorite national team especially those in the Serie A, the most professional sports league. We will not describe the rules of this sport as everyone knows them but you might be interested in some historical and artistic hints that are linked to our capitalcity stadium "The Olimpico" in Rome
