In this video, the situations are built by the ocean and waves, the texts and text boxes strengthen the situation by locating the “Me” box next to the performer and “Her Dad” against the ocean, which creates a simile. The video combines text, video, music to reveal a story between a daughter’s father and her partner. The BGM may hint at imitating a father’s internal mental activity.

Users can stitch their videos to other videos on TikTok, they can record duets with other users, add visual and sound effects, as well as edit their video, change the zoom, or speed. All of these are affordances for creativity and collaboration among users, as well as repurpoing and remixing content. This offers an opportunity for user interaction, as users can follow, like, comment, add emojis, and even stitch and duet with another user's post.
There is an example of infinite hybridization potential of TikTok (Lankshear and Knobel, Digital Remix: The Art and Craft of Endless Hybridization).
-Emily

TikTok offers access to all types of trends and fads that allow kids to feel like they are a part of something. DIY trends, Squishmalllows, slime, and fidget toys are just some examples of trends that exploded within the younger generation due to TikTok.
Teenagers also engage in TikTok challenges on the app. They can click on hashtags to find various challenges that are trending. For example, #purpleshampoo will lead you to a series of dozens of videos of users trying a purple shampoo. Or users might post videos of themselves dancing to a new pop song, putting on or taking off makeup, pretending to have special powers, or rolling on the ground like a tumbleweed.

Q: What decisions are made and what motivates them?

Using TikTok, creators can make an abundance of decisions to customize their creation. They can choose to add words, pictures, videos, filters, and more. Another significant decision users can make is who their audience will be. A literacy artifact does not necessarily only carry the meaning the creator intended; viewers and interpreters can make their own meaning from these videos they are watching as well. Users can choose to publish their TikToks private to their followers, or public. This brings up the TikTok algorithm, which when posted as public can go to anyone using the app, usually someone with similar interests regarding the topic of the video. In other words, users may make decisions differently depending on who they are presenting their content to.
