1) "I was only thirteen and they were going to have me psychoanalyzed and all because I broke all the windows in the garage. I don't blame them. i really don't. I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with my fist just for the hell of it. ...it was very stupid thing to do ill admit but i hardly even know I was doing it and you didn't know Allie."
1) On the night Allie died, Holden slept in the garage and punched out all the windows with his bare hand, causing him to miss the funeral because he needed to go to the hospital. In the aftermath of this event, his parents wanted to have Holden psychoanalyzed.
1) Allie character overall brings out the most of Holden's character. since being that he is Holden's deceased younger brother. Allie died of leukemia when Holden was 13. The memory of this loss still haunts Holden, who remembers his brother as intelligent, calm, and friendly, the perfect child. Holden thinks about his brother frequently and even calls upon him as a protector whenever he feels depressed.
1)

2) "Old Mrs. Morrow didn't say anything, but boy, you should have seen her. I had her glued to her seat. You take somebody's mother, all they want to hear about is what a hot-shot their son is."
2) Mrs. Morrow is the mother of one of Holden's classmates. Holden meets her on the train and begins Due to the fact how she believes her son is everything. Being popular, well known and would have done such great things if he was class president.
2) Mrs. Morrow character tells a lot about Holden's character. When she instantly recognizes the Pencey seal on Holden’s suitcases. Holden in response gives her a fake name and then speaks fondly of her son, when he actually hates. He finds Mrs. Morrow a quite pleasant person and someone who is even flirtatiously. Then he continues to invite her to have a cocktail with him, though she politely declines.
2)

3) "Stradlater wasn’t hardly listening. He was combing his gorgeous locks."
3) Holden makes his observation when Stradlater is getting ready for his date with Jane. Although Holden may have a hidden attraction to Stradlater, his use of words like “gorgeous locks” gives the ironic appeal. Holden criticizes Stradlater for being emotionally distant and overly preoccupied with his overall appearance.
3) Stradlater character showcases things about Holden's character. A popular and good looking man, Stradlater is confident but kind. Although Holden recognizes that his roommate is rather conceited, he also knows that Stradlater is the sort of person who would give another student his own tie if that student complimented it.
3)

5) "You’d like her. I mean if you tell old Phoebe something, she knows exactly what the hell you’re talking about. I mean you can even take her anywhere with you. If you take her to a lousy movie, for instance, she knows it’s a lousy movie. If you take her to a pretty good movie, she knows it’s a pretty good movie."
5) holden's younger sister phoebe is easily connectable. She a good listener for Holden. Her unique characteristics make Holden feel like they are on the same page. For instance with their sibling bond, they even share an understanding of what makes a movie “lousy” or “pretty good.”
5) Phoebe overall character reveals a lot about Holden. Being that they are siblings and she may be younger. But they have a special bond together and there are rare times when Holden talks about Phoebe in length. They are able to connect with each other even about the smallest things like movies.
5)

6) "Then, just to show you how crazy I am, when we were coming out of this big clinch, I told her I loved her and all. It was a lie, of course, but the thing is, I meant it when I said it. I’m crazy. I swear to God I am."
6) Sally Hayes is someone that Holden has dated in the past. Like Holden, Sally goes to a private school, but her school lets out for winter break earlier than Pencey, which is why she’s able to meet Holden in New York City when he calls her. Despite this invitation, though, Holden doesn’t truly respect Sally, though he finds her attractive and thus decides to spend time with her.
6) Sally character brings out the character in Holden since he has trouble enjoying himself when he’s in her presence. She uses phrases that annoy him and likes things that he finds shallow and pointless.
6)

4) “The whole time he roomed next to me, I never even once saw him brush his teeth. They always looked mossy and awful”
4) Ackley was one of Holden's roomates. His overall hygiene was never kept up well noticed by Holden. Saying how he never saw him brush his teeth. Ackley has bad skin and unclean teeth.
4) Ackley overall character brings out some things about Holden. Not only were they roomate at the prep school. But Holden was able to notice the major things about his roomates including Ackley about his horrible hygiene. For these main reasons, not many people like him, and Ackley’s behavior doesn’t help since he often lingers and acts like he dislikes people even though it’s obvious he wants them to pay attention to him.
4)
