The design of bullet train was inspired by the king fisher bird. Bullet train used to create a loud sound called tunnel boom when it exits a tunnel because of the air pressure building up in the tunnel and then released. However, the problem was solved when the head of the train was redesigned to mimic the kingfisher's sharp beak. The new design not only solves the problem, but also makes the train faster while using less electricity.

Self cleaning materials imitate the ultrahydrophobicity of lotus leaf known as the lotus effect. This characteristic allows dirt particles to be picked up by water droplets due to microscopic architecture on the surface that minimizes the droplet's adhesion to the surface, therefore achieving the "self cleaning" effect. The use of this technology helps to reduce the energy and resources needed for cleaning.

The invention of Velcro hook-and-loop fastener was inspired by burrs. A burr is the seed or fruit of a plant that has tiny hooks on it and clings to fabric or fur. Velcro uses this feature to stick to the loop with its hook. This adhesive characteristic is completely chemical free and does not produce any pollutants.
