1+3) They require Healthcare as they have a weak immune system, which makes them more susceptible to illnesses, such as Covid. They need close facilities such as markets as they can't travel to far places easily since some of them are frail. They require facilities to interact with one another to enjoy convenient access to various amenities.

2+4) We prioritise healthcare. Prioritizing healthcare for the elderly is essential because they are more vulnerable to chronic illnesses, mobility issues, and cognitive decline, making consistent medical care crucial for their well-being. As people age, their immune systems weaken, increasing the risk of severe complications from common infections and diseases. Providing accessible and quality healthcare ensures they can maintain a good quality of life, remain independent for longer, and contribute to society in meaningful ways. Additionally, supporting elderly healthcare reduces the burden on families and emergency medical services by focusing on preventive care and early intervention. Investing in their health is not just an ethical responsibility but also a step toward building a compassionate and sustainable healthcare system for future generations.

5) Yes, the costs of elderly healthcare can be unequally shared. Taxpayers, especially the working-age population, bear the financial burden of government-funded programs. Caregivers, often women, face emotional and financial strain, sometimes sacrificing careers. Lower-income groups struggle with costly private care, leading to disparities in healthcare quality.

6)Having more healthcare services could cause a decrease in education services. As Singapore is scarce for land, we need to use it wisely. However, if we were to implement more hospitals and clinics, then the number of schools could decline as we prioritise elderly over adolescents.

We would build a Kindergarten, playground, and a communal library below their blocks. These amenities are important as education should be a priority for kids for child development. The library can build their child’s reading skills, and language. The playground can build their motor skills and build memories. As the playground may be surrounded by blocks around, the noise from the playground may affect the elderly residents or residents who work from home.

As the playground is only made for children, it is a possible trade-off because it doesn’t benefit the other adult members of the community.

Just like humans, pets require basic services such as healthcare (vets), entertainment (parks) and food (supermarkets, pet shops). Additionally, it would be more convenient for pet owners to be able to enjoy the company of their pets when travelling. However, there are certain trade-offs to be made such as the comfort of other people in the neighborhood. Some people in the common neighborhood do not enjoy the presence of furry animals as they may be allergic to fur or are sensitive to loud noises that pets such as dogs make. Also, pet-friendly malls and cremation/burial sites, training centers, parks and pet-friendly transportation take up both a lot of land space and money which is a major trade-off considering how small of a country Singapore is.

A few amenities we would like to build include wheelchair friendly playgrounds, ramps and elevators, wide doorways and pathways, accessible bathrooms, and wheelchair accessible parking spaces near building entrances for easy access.

These amenities, especially the ramps and elevators, are important for convenient transportation to different places. Furthermore, it allows people with mobility issues to feel heard, promoting independence, and ensuring equal access to opportunities and services.

Building this is good for society as the person with mobility issues and requires the use of a wheelchair is able to have a greater sense of belonging and Singapore will be portrayed as being inclusive. Once others with family members who may have these mobility issues see this, they will want to support the government for the progress and growth of an inclusive society.

Possible “costs” may be the financial costs of building these amenities that can be used to build other amenities for other groups of society like hospitals for the elderly.

Because the ramps or elevators, wider pathways, and wheelchair accessible bathrooms take up more space, it is a possible trade-off as this space could be used to build more amenities to serve the needs of other groups in society.

A good leader is one that must be honest and capable. They have to be

able to make the right decision for the country, even though it may

be difficult. These decisions may not be popular as well. This principle is important, because he/she must consider others' needs before building the place and they also need to consider the factors, as Singapore has limited land. For instance, the government wants to build a hospital near their homes. However, families with school-going children also wants a school to be built near their homes. So the government must be considerate and fulfil the needs of the children.

With limited resources and space, the government must prioritise some groups of people over others. This makes it hard to decide what is good to society because not everyone can be happy. In addition, with many different people in a society, everyone would have a different perspective and opinion on what is good for society, making it hard to decide.

2) Ensuring everyone has a stake in society can help decide whether the amenity a group has decided to build should be built. What benefits one group might negatively affect another. For example, building a new road might improve transport for commuters but could harm the environment or require people to move from their homes. There's also the challenge of balancing short-term benefits with long-term consequences. Decisions must consider many perspectives which is hard in its own.

2) One principle of governance is participation. This principle ensures that people affected by a decision have the opportunity to share their views. In our group, we used participation to help decide if the amenity should be built by asking for opinions from each other.

I think that it is difficult to decide what is good for society because many different groups of people have their specific requirements and amenities that it is so difficult to decide on which groups to prioritize. Additionally, for a country like Singapore, land is limited thus our government cannot cater to all needs of different groups. This also means that the government must resolve the matter by making trade-offs whereby they prioritize certain amenities over others due to the limited land resource.

I think that ensuring that everyone has a stake in something can help decide what amenities are to be built. It is best we try to build amenities that benefit the general public like shopping malls that benefit families, pet owners, retired elders and individuals. This is because it is convenient in a sense where almost all groups can benefit from one amenity.

1) this is because different people have different wants and needs. the government needs to consider all these needs, wants and how much it will affect society and then only decide what to do

2) i choose to use the principle of ' Anticipating change and staying relavant' this is because pets are living creatures. they can be sick, need food and water just like us. By anticipating change and staying relavant, we can see when the majourity of pets need something and build it ( ex: a illness is spreading around and affecting pets, will need to build more vets) sometimes owners buy pets due to trends. the government must be prepared to set up more animal shelters to prepare for the owners who may abandon/ adopt pets soon. if we built something that is not relavent, we will waste space and money

Deciding what is good for society is difficult as society comprises of people with varying priorities and needs. Thus, this could lead to an unequal sharing of costs. This means making a certain decision for society could benefit one group but disadvantage another.

Practicing meritocracy. For example edusave could incentivise students to work hard and get good grades in school. This in turn means that Singapore will have more well educated, valuable people which is an important asset to Singapore as it doesnt have many valuable resources
