Transmission in music is the connection between the performer and audience. It's the way their message or feelings reach the audience. For example, certain chords show different feelings, tone specifies that emotion better, and speed can show the intensity of the feelings/message. Transmission is important in music, otherwise there's no connection with others, or even the connection between music and people in general, thus music would be pretty pointless. There are good and better ways to convey and transmit your feelings/message through music(as stated previously) and those are used in all music. Ratliff states, "there is an extreme form of emotion in music that transcends specific moods. I'll call it a state of transmission." I agree with this statement, music can go beyond just knowing how the performer feels or is saying, if they utilize those tools really well, you can really live in the music. You experience it instead of listening to it.

"He seems to be conscious of how very little matters except the essential things. He sings that half of what he says is meaningless, but he sings the line clearly, as if he's intending it as a gift or a direct message." ... "The verses are absolute simplicity: the vocal line stays on one note until he arrives at the name of the woman he's singing to, which he respects, in a secular kind of way," -Ratliff

I agree with Ratliff, the song is very simple and carefree. The song has a soft tone and changes on "Julia" to kind of make her name special and stand out, to kind of show how he cares for Julia. He conveys this all through transmission. He sings softly, slowly, and quietly and the tone of his voice all convey these traits and feelings to his audience

"Wake to see our true emancipation is a fantasy. Policies, have risen up and overcome the brave. Greatness dies, unsung and lost, invisible to history. Embedded spies, brainwashing our children to be mean. You don't have long, I am on to you. The time, it has come to destroy Your supremacy. You don't have long, I am on to you. The time, it has come to destroy Your supremacy. Supremacy" - Muse

This is a pretty intense song. There's a lot of tension and emphasized, loud notes. They're higher in pitch or lower with that pulling, raspy, crunch sound to really make it stand out. The song fluctuates between being loud and intense to being soft, slow, and having a nice rounded beautiful sound. The softer parts are still intense, just more like a building up feeling. The song feels like a revolution is about to happen. All of the elements to the song previously stated make it feel this way. It's a great song if you're going through an edgy life change: teenage years into early adulthood, or even any adult who's still got that angsty, angry, rebellious side to them.
