In my class, there was social studies and ELA combined. They were reading stories about the political parties and government. There was also a lot of science integrated with ELA as well since they had to write an informational writing piece on different animals and their habitat.

One idea to add is giving students the chance to explore real-world problems in their own communities using all parts of STREAMS. I think that lack of resources could make it more difficult to carry out STREAM lessons. Especially in schools that are more testing focused, some subjects may not get all the time and resources allotted to them that they deserve.

If you were to do a lesson based on kids' interest in soccer, you could relate it to forces of motion, history of soccer, circumference/spheres, or drawing a model of a soccer skill.

It might be outside of the curriculum, take too much time out of the allotted lesson time period, or more work for the teacher.

A step you could take to do this would be is integrating just 2 subjects at a time (social studies and ELA) and work from there to integrate more with time.

We need to be cognizant of what the students like to do and this means asking students during the different quarters of the year what their interests are. From there, we can build off a student's funds of knowledge and create lessons that will stick to them because they are invested and will appreciate since it is incorporating activities across disciplines.

You can take any interest and turn it into a STREAM lesson if you have the resources. For practicum, I had a student study the history of fashion (social studies), learn the structure of a paragraph to relay this information in her own words (ELA) and then design an outfit on a poster (art). I could have added science by talking about materials that clothes are made of and math by having her measure certain pieces of cloth or other materials that she would need to create her design in real life.
