Week 1 - In the first week we started the session by discussing what genre we wanted to base our composition from and after discussion we settled on writing a country/rockabilly style of music. Rockabilly features strong vocal harmonies and vocal twangs which Andy and Louis have taken on board when singing the piece. When drumming to the song I used a classic train beat which includes 8th notes on the snare drum, accenting the back-beat whilst playing the kick on 1 and 3 and the hi hat played on the 2 and 4. We didn't quiet have time to finish the song but we got the main chorus and verse down. Our overall productiveness was good for the session so I would give it a 10/10. To improve for next time we should finish writing the song and also record it.

Week 2 - During this weeks session we spent our time finishing the song we wrote in the previous week, by adding to the lyrics and structure. After finishing the song we got it filmed and by then the session had finished. In order to improve for the final performance I could do with getting tighter on the ghost drag notes played on the snare drum and just become more comfortable altogether. As a group we should keep running through the tune and become tighter so we can preform at a higher standard. Attached below is a video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaGxbElmnIs&list=PLNTlmWoJVMq1DXzgHAriYMBDW_vAVGiAk&index=2

Week 3 - This week we started to work on a new song called 'Shifting Sands' which is based of a 70's rock style, inspired by the likes of T. Rex. Andy already had the main bulk of the song written so the main focus today was to write parts for the bass and drums and write some extra parts to the song. The song needed a new intro, bridge and an outro so after working on that the song was finished. In the end I wasn't too happy with my drums so for next week I will come up with a new groove to fit the style more as I think I over complicated the playing. Also for next week we will change the outro because we were not happy enough with how it went previsouly. Overall I would rate the overall productivy 10/10 as we cracked on with the work and outlined clearly what we have to do to improve. Here is the video of the 1st draft of the song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFnPXD25SZU&list=PLNTlmWoJVMq1DXzgHAriYMBDW_vAVGiAk&index=6

Week 4 - Today me, Nathan and Louis decided to write a funk song from the 80's period. The song was developed from a riff that Nathan wrote and from then the song took formation. The drum beat I wrote held many features of funk such as open hi-hats on the first beat and also accenting the bell on the ride cymbal. In the end the song didn't get finished so for next week the goal is to finish that and also start working on another one. As a target for myself I would like the drums to get tighter so I will go home and learn more funk beats for the next session. Attached below is a video of the song in progress:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMEqZkfJIJs&list=PLNTlmWoJVMq1DXzgHAriYMBDW_vAVGiAk&index=10

Week 5 - Today during our session we decided to work on a new song because we weren't happy with the way the funk song was going. We experimented with other genres that could possibly work but didn't have any luck pursing any ideas. In the end we started working on a punk song but as a group we couldn't agree on anything and before we knew it the time was up. Today I would say the session was pretty much pointless and as a group we didn't work too well so the productivity was low. For next week our goal is to come in with some new fresh ideas and begin work again.

Week 6 - Today in our session we started working on a two-tone tune from the 80's which was inspired by the likes of Madness, The Specials and The Beat. Originally we were working on a punk song from last week but we decided against it after being unhappy with the song so we decided to work on a fresh piece. The song developed from some chords Andy wrote and from then lyrics were added as well as other i strumentation. The key factor of telling its a two-town/ska tune is the upbeat playing patterns played on both the drums, bass and guitar. The melody line also gives the song a real authentic two-tone feel. For next week we will tighten up this song and also start work on another. Also for next time the song might sound better with more fills added in the mix so I will try some more out for next week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkFeTHPXEes&list=PLNTlmWoJVMq1DXzgHAriYMBDW_vAVGiAk&index=13

Week 7 - This week me, Nathan and Louis wrote a modern day indie instrumental tune, inspired by Ian Brown's solo material and Jack White. The song developed from a riff I wrote on a keyboard and from there we started jamming the song, all adding instrumental solos over the main riff. For next week we will have to teach Andy the song and give him some time to add his own part to the mix.

Week 8 - In this final week as decided to once again scrap the idea of the previous week and work on a new 2000's song. The idea to write a new song came from a bass line Nathan wrote and from then the song progressed and progressed. Louis had already penned in some lyrics and the song was written in around half an hour. The song was inspired by the 2000's with bands such as Franz Ferdinand and Block Party taking a large influence on this song in particular. Once the song was finished we recorded it and went through our older material to rehearse for the upcoming concerts. I was say the group productivity was 10/10 today as we all cracked on with the task and finished a final product we're all happy with.
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DR4w5i1JEs&index=22&list=PLNTlmWoJVMq1DXzgHAriYMBDW_vAVGiAk
