It takes place present day. There are many characters but the main are “the seven,” which are the demigods chosen to save the world from Gaea, are Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Piper, Hazel, Frank, and Jason.
  • Percy is a son of Poseidon, the Greek god of water (protagonist)
  • Annabeth is a daughter of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom (protagonist)
  • Leo is a son of Hephaestus, the Greek god of forges and fire (protagonist)
  • Piper is a daughter of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love (protagonist)
  • Hazel is a daughter of Pluto, Roman god of death and the underworld
  • Frank is a son of Mars, Roman god of war
  • Jason is a son of Jupiter, Roman god of the sky (protagonist)
  • Gaea, the goddess of the earth, is arising during the book, and throughout the series, she becomes more powerful.(antagonist)

While Percy and Annabeth are trying to make their way out of the Underworld, The others, Leo, Piper, Hazel, Frank, Jason, and Nico are trying to close the Doors of Death in time before Gaea, the goddess of the earth, takes over and destroys everything. By closing the doors, monsters and demigods who were killed before could be revived sooner than they should.  The seven are also trying to save their friends Percy and Annabeth. While all this is happening, the Greeks and Romans are not being united and are fighting a war with each other.
