  • Romania is considered a compact state. Even though its capital isn't centralized, the state is small and simple to manage.
  • In the past, Romania has had two boundary issues, with the first dating back to the 1940's. In August 1940, Romania was rewarded with land that was once Northern Transylvania. The Second Vienna Award allowed Romania to expand their territories. 
  • Most recently, Romania had a dispute versus Ukraine. Romania brought a case against Ukraine to the International Court of Justice as part of a dispute over the maritime boundary between the two states in the Black Sea, claiming that Snake island had no socioeconomic significance on September 16, 2004. A verdict was delivered in 2009, establishing a maritime boundary including the continental shelf and zones for Romania and Ukraine.

The original work has eleven verses, but only four verses are usually performed as the official lyrics. "Deşteaptă-te române"
