I have never learned in another language, except if you count foreign language in college where the instructor speaks to you in the language you are learning during the entirety of the class. My name is Riana Polino and I am a fifth grade teacher at Northside. Prior to teaching here, I taught sixth and fourth grade in Virginia. When I worked in Virginia, I always had a large number of ELL students in my classroom. I often co-taught with a ESL teacher. While in college, I minored in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (my college was in a refugee resettlement community and the local HS had over 45 languages spoken!). I really enjoyed working with these kiddos while in college and Virginia as they are so excited about learning an additional language and have so much to offer a classroom community.
