In the text it states, “The speaker, a veteran of the Nashville civil rights movement, spoke about Kwanzaa as a time of memory and celebration.Wearing an African dashiki, a colorful garment for the upper body, he led those in attendance – blacks and whites and those of other ethnicities – in Kwanzaa songs” (Dobson 1). In other words the veteran from Nashville led the audience. He being a veteran of Nashville Civil Rights movement was guiding those who are and are not black in Kwanzaa songs .This is significant because it implies that other ethnicities wanted to learn and actually care about African heritage. They want to learn and be able to understand someone else’s culture and join them when celebrating. To sum it up, people from different cultures should be able to celebrate Kwanzaa because not only are they learning African heritage, they appreciate it and wanting to celebrate it.
