He saw that injured look on Margaret’s face and promptly dropped on me: “Id like to see what you’d say if Margaret ever started looking at one of your books!”

This surprised me because I can’t believe that they would talk to Anne that way, whiteout even letting her get out a single word. I think that was really unfair to Anne especially since she is a young kid, and she doesn’t deserve to be treated that way.

Page:44

She strokes his face and hair, pulls her skirt right up, and makes so-called winky remarks, trying in this way to attract Pim‘s attention. Pim, thank goodness doesn’t find her either attractive or funny, so he doesn’t play ball.”

This surprised me because, Anne shouldn’t be dealing with this subject at her age, Anne had to witness this experience happing in front of her eyes and was comfortable enough to talk about it. Anne shouldn’t have to see this married woman, flirting with her dad, something like this could scar a child.

Page: 37

"No, Mummy,"

1 answered

Mummy got up, paused by my bed for a moment, and walked slowly towards the door. Suddenly she turned around, and with a distorted look on her face said, "I don't want to be cross, love cannot be forced." There were tears in her eyes as she left the room.”

My thoughts were how could Anne talk that way to her mother like that, I know she didn’t mean to hurt her feelings but Anne could have made it come off more softer. I do trust him and I want to show him that I do, which can’t happen if I stay downstairs through lack of trust. No, I’m going!

I think that this quote shows a tough question because she’s asking herself this question of if she should go upstairs to be with Peter or obey her fathers wishes of not going, and she wanted to make the right decision. Because if she went upstairs she would be disappointing her father by going against his decision, but if she doesn’t go upstairs it would be like if she was showing a lack of trust towards Peter. Which in her eyes she didn’t want to do because later ended up choosing to go upstairs with Peter, which had later led to a fight with her father.

Page: 221

Week 3
