FRACTURE TIBIA AND FIBULA
Although each of these bones can be fractured separately, the rupture is usually a joint injury

Most fractures involve the proximal part of the bone (part of the bone near the knee) or the distal part (part of the bone near the ankle).

Due to the thin skin covering the tibia and fibula, the fractures are usually open, that is, the broken bone rips through the skin.

Fractures of tibia and fibula usually occur due to a strong impact or torsion.

CAUSES
The main reason why a person may suffer a broken tibia and fibula is due to a direct impact or leg strength. It may be due to a strong impact or twisting, when the bone supports a heavy load. It is one of the most suffered injuries by footballers and motorcycle riders.

SYMPTONS
The most common symptoms in tibia and fibula ruptures are:
- Acute pain.
- Inability to walk, carry weight or move leg.
- Possible deformity at the site of rupture, swelling, internal bleeding and excessive sensitivity in the area, in case the rupture is closed.
- Cutaneous tear at the fracture site, in case the fracture is open.
- Loss of sensation in the leg and foot due to nerve involvement.

Conservative treatment (immobilization with plaster) on isolated non-displaced tears while surgical treatment (external fixation) is performed when the bone is displaced from its position.

In the case of surgery they include the placement of a metal plate with screws, placement of a rod in the lower half of the bone, metal nails through the bone by external fixation or screws.

After immobilization, the baths are recommended to alternate the cold and heat, massage the circulatory member and apply an elastic tubular bandage.
