BUS112-Emotional Intelligence

1. There are several signs of high emotional intelligence. They respond instead of react. They put themselves in other people’s shoes. They manage their emotions better than most.

a. How they handle criticism? They don’t blame, use excuses or anxiety or are in denial. Regardless of the exact nature of their reaction, they do not deny it, blame others, make excuses or melt into a pool of anxiety.

b. They are a good listener. They listen to the situation without reacting to judgement.

c. They are open-minded. They don’t automatically dismiss ideas just because they are different from their own.

d. They don’t try to prove they are right. Instead of looking for excuses, they offer a simple, honest apology that lets them quickly get back on track

2. Research has shown that emotional intelligence can be acquired and even improved with practice. Esther Oriol, uses a 21 day practice. There are qualities to assess in everyday situations. You need to be motivated, want to improve and practice the targeted behaviors that you want to improve. This has also shown to be the best antidote to work stress, higher levels of happiness, improve mental and physical health and even social and marital relationships. No human behavior is unchangeable.

I believe that you can tell if someone has a high degree of emotional intelligence by the way they react to a situation and how they handle it. They would have self-awareness, motivation, empathy, social skills, and self regulation. I believe that if they have a high degree of emotional intelligence, they understand what a person may be going through and reflect without passing judgment. They are able to work with them the best way for that situation. They are interested in their feelings and make sure the person is okay before pressuring them. A person with a good amount of emotional intelligence would be more aware of their own actions before acting out. They would provide helpful feedback to a situation and praise others for their success. I believe that emotional intelligence can be learned. Like stated in the video, sometimes you need to think of what you want to do and how you want to accomplish it. Maybe even try the 21 day program. It may not be something that you are comfortable with but after time you teach yourself that you can do it. I believe anyone willing to learn something new can if they just try.

Someone who has a high degree of emotional intelligence is able to connect with and show empathy for others, reacting to situations well. They are motivated, self-aware, and have good self-regulation and social skills. Someone with a high degree of emotional intelligence is able to analyze situations quickly and respond appropriately, helping others and managing their emotions well. Emotional intelligence can be learned, and even can be improved with practice (21 day program). With the right mindset and a willingness to learn, emotional intelligence can help all leaders and employees in businesses.

When someone has a high degree of emotional intelligence, they demonstrate empathy, self-control, and do not let anger or emotions cloud their judgement. They are good at expressing themselves. They do things by design.
I believe to an extent emotional intelligence can be learned. It is like any other disciple or skill in that if you read about it, apply it, and practice the behaviors you can learn to be more emotionally intelligent. I also believe that some people are naturals or born with more emotional intelligence than others, the natural born leaders.

People with high emotional intelligence not only know how to keep their own emotions in check and in control, but also know how to empathize with many others on many different spectrum. These people tend never to let their emotions drive anything that they do or say. They can sometimes be considered to be standoffish. I think for the most part if emotional intelligence is learned, it takes a long time for someone to learn it. I think it's possible, but highly unlikely that it'll be something that is taught and learned like in school. It's something i think that takes more practice than anything.

Those who are emotionally intelligent are often skilled at self control and relationship building. They have clear visions of the future and can align employees behind that vision. They are typically seen as effective and competent at their jobs. This emotional intelligence comes naturally for some, but for most it takes many years of learning themselves and improving their abilities.

1. When a person has a high degree if Emotional Intelligence they are more likely to lead. It means they they understand themselves and others, everyone is only human after all. While at the same time they stay focused with the task at hand. A self-motivating leader will likely motivate their employees. They will keep others in mind, and think before answering. They know that what they say can affect who they are talking to. Also they understand that they make mistakes as well and try to improve upon them. Someone with high EQ would be called a master of their emotions.
2. Emotional Intelligence' like everything else can be learned, but there is not anyone who can teach it to you but yourself with self-reflecting on how things could have went better, staying focused, and life experiences.

I can tell if someone has a high degree of Emotional Intelligence just by there interaction with me and other people. They show empathy by saying "I understand how you feel and I would feel the same way if this happened to me." They definitely show more concern about how you are feeling and why.
I think Emotional Intelligence can be learned. It is almost like admitting and recognizing that you are an alcoholic. Once you realize that your leadership style is not making a difference in your company and the people you lead have low morale and a lack of trust and respect for you, now you have to decide that you have to change your approach and attitude. You may need to get an outside perspective from someone and take it step by step.

You can tell someone has a high degree of emotional intelligence, because they are self aware of their own emotions and how they affect others, they care about others, operate with integrity, self-motivated, etc. I believe that anything can be learned, but in this case you really have to have the will to learn it. It would take a lot of time and practice, and more than likely a lot of self reflection, if you don't have the skill currently.
