Amazon forests of Ecuador

The Amazon rainforest, which encompasses much of northwestern Brazil and extends into Colombia, Peru, and other countries in South America, is the largest tropical forest in the world and is famous for its biodiversity. It is crisscrossed by thousands of rivers, including the mighty Amazon. One of the main threats to this tropical forest is tourism and deforestation.

In the Amazon, natural forests are threatened by oil activity, which cause direct environmental impacts, making it a fragile natural ecosystem. At least 80 hectares of Amazon forest are destroyed annually by deforestation in Ecuador, a reality that, together with extractive activity, climate change and soil erosion, constitute the problems of great concern in the country. According to the opinion of the majority, the main negative effects of tourism in the Amazon rainforest areas are: environmental degradation, pollution, depletion of resources, soil erosion due to the impact of visitors, deterioration and destruction of flora and fauna.

From Carlos Garcia's point of view, tourists should go to visit the Amazon because there is a great variety of flora and fauna that our country has, with this the economy will improve in this region. The economy is one of the most important aspects that must be established in our country. With the arrival of tourists, the generation of income, foreign exchange, employment, income for the public sector and investments increases, even though tourists should be careful with biodiversity because the ecosystem is fragile. They must respect the rules that are implemented there, such as: no littering, no burning of trees, no hunting, etc.

To sum up, we do not agree with the visit of tourists to the Amazon rainforest because it is a great risk to the biodiversity of the place. Pollution and mining are the main reasons that we do not agree with the visit of tourists.

Members:

Carlos Garcia

Salome Mendoza

Jocelyne Ramon

Steven Lima

Maria Germania

Galapagos Island is part of the Republic of Ecuador and is located in the Pacific Ocean. Today, one of the most important economic and cultural activities is tourism. Tourism is also a key aspect in promoting a country to improve its reputation and positioning, promoting all its strengths, and being able to give the world incentives to visit or invest.

Galapagos and those volcanic islands are experiencing the effects of tourism, such as a large number of introduced species and a growing population. The endemic species of the Galapagos Islands have survived in harmony for hundreds of years. However, new species have been introduced to the islands and are upsetting the harmony of endemic animals. These threats to the environment have become a serious problem and some organizations have been working on conservation projects.

From our point of view, tourism should not be eradicated because it is an important economic activity for the country and also for the people who live in the archipelago. Visitors must contribute to the protection of the environment. Even though the fact that the Galapagos was in danger a few years ago, with the new regulations adopted for its conservation, there has been an improvement.

To conclude, the Galapagos Islands have such an important value in the tourist and natural aspects in which our country must strictly regulate the way they take care of the environment, keeping endemic species safe and active tourism.

Members:
-Ana Cristina Andrade
-Paula Sarmiento
-Diego Rodriguez
-Reymon Cabrera
-Alex Díaz

Protection of Isabela Island

Have you ever thought about what would happen if we did not protect Isabela Island? Even though it does not have a big population, it is the largest island of the archipelago and it has one of the richest marine ecosystems worldwide. However, tourism industry has harmed the ecosystem because it has developed rapidly with more buildings being constructed. So in our opinion, if no one takes actions such as ecotourism that will preserve the island, possibly endanger the wildlife nearby.

Firstly, we think that Isabela Island has a unique richness of fauna and flora that must be preserved. There are around 5 species of giant tortoises, penguins, marine iguanas, sea lions, and more iconic species typical of the ecosystem. Because some of them are in danger of extinction, it is essential to safeguard the exotic biodiversity of the island.

In the second instance, another big threat on this magical island is the growing tourism. The increase in tourists means a large increase in hotels, shops and more buildings near the protected areas that drastically affected the endemic plants and animals of the island. In addition, being this a tourist attraction for thousands of people, it has brought with it a huge amount of pollution of the air, beaches and ocean. Even though our government has implemented security measures, the problem is real and seems to get worse over time.

Summing it up, we believe that in order to preserve Isabela island which is home of unique lifeforms around the world, it is necessary to make adequate decisions regarding tourism. Implement ecotourism and raise awareness in the population that uncommon species who live there may become extinct if this ecosystem is not protected.

Group members:

Camila Jiménez

Nicole Morocho

Natalia Castillo

Evelyn García

Emilia Ortega

The Cajas National Park is a vast and protected paramo, it constitutes a unique setting in the world for its diversity of lake bodies and landscapes. It is located in the southern Andes of Ecuador.

The flora of the National Park is biodiverse as it has ecosystems rich in flora. Thanks to the varied and abundant water bodies that make up the park, there is also a considerable presence of migratory birds in the area. It is also home to very diverse fauna, such as Andean condors, giant hummingbirds, and coatis (animals similar to raccoons). Even though the effects of tourist´s actions, grazing and burning have degraded and cannot preserve some Park areas, which restores the most affected parts with plantations of native pasture species. A possible consequence is it will become fragile.

In conclusion, The National Park "El cajas" must be a remote area because its flora and fauna are special and we have to preserve this ecosystem and another ones to future generations.

Group members:

Nohelia Paltin

Karolay Betancourt

Kasandra Granda

Jhulissa Quizhpe

Elian Torres

Year-end and the vast damage in the Salinas environment

Nowadays Salinas is one of the best-known cities in Ecuador, for its beautiful beaches and other tourist attractions. Every year they receive thousands of visitors. This place offers many activities to distract you as natural experience, ecotourism, water sports, and many adventures that you will never forget. On the other hand, these activities also entice bad tourists who damage and destroy these attractions. One of how beaches are most affected is with pollution. Dumping garbage in the sea or on the beach causes much of the marine fauna to be destroyed. In this way, it contributes to global warming and consequently the destruction of the ozone layer.

Even though tourism contributes to the economic development of a country, the massive visit of tourists travels to the city of Salinas causes to be found a large amount of waste in the environment. For example, at the beginning of each year it would collect 420 tons of garbage due to the festivities of year-end. This causes marine animals such as sharks, seals, dolphins, whales, and birds to are disturbed, so they start to go away and disappear because they don't have space to inhabit or food to survive. For these reasons, it is important that the Ministry of the Environment take action so that they can protect the marine fauna.

Last but not least, the condition of beaches is crucial to preserve the environment because many innocent animals lose their lives for our irresponsibility when we make a trip to these natural environment. It should be mentioned since not only the wildlife are in danger due to the pollution, we are in danger too. That's why we need to be aware about the consequences of contamination in our environment for the good of all.

Salinas beach has been an impressive tourist place but with the passage of time and the disorder caused by the massive presence of people it has degenerated. Despite that, it has not stopped being one of the most visited tourist places in Ecuador.

Although tourism generates a great economic contribution to the country, we must not overlook that our tourist wonders are sacred places that must be preserved. We must begin by being us, Ecuadorians, who impose order and respect towards our much visited beach "Salinas" because only in this way we can get other people to appreciate and preserve in a better way the landscapes that our beach can offer. In addition, they will be able to enjoy all tourist activity without leaving aside the consideration that they must have towards such an important panorama.

Names:
-Fernando Guaillas.
-Angela Chamba.
-Paula Moreno.
-Isavó Montesinos.
-Lady Soto.

Mandango: A beautiful place that should be preserved.

Mandango or “the lying god” is a mountain that is 200 meters high. It is located next to the town of Vilcabamba where its inhabitants consider it their watchdog. This ancient mountain is one of the most visited places by tourist even though it has a harsh environment that difficult to reach the top. However, tourism has caused that over the years exist different effects for the habitat of Mandango. Consequently, it makes us wonder if ecotourism is adequate for the preservation of this place. We consider that ecotourism is affecting negatively to it, so should not be allowed for several reasons.

One reason is that some tourist doesn't follow the instructions of security in the Mandango. Some of them, guided by superstitions of paranormal events like UFOs, camp in the restricted areas. In consequence, there has been an increase in the pollution of this place.

Another reason is the poor condition of the path because it is currently visited by a large number of people who love extreme sports or merely want to admire the magnificent landscape from the heights. Besides, the security measures such as the signs and the wooden railings located in the sector are in bad condition, which can cause an amusing adventure to become a tragedy.

Also, the environment of this lovely spot has been polluted by visitors. Some inhabitants affirm that tourists do not respect and throw garbage even though they are warned not to do it. Trash such as plastic bags, plastic bottles, or even disposable diapers is found regularly by people who try to conserve the local nature.

We believe that the authorities in charge should be more attentive to the care, maintenance, adaptation, preservation, and conservation of this place. In turn, guarantee the safety of the inhabitants who live near the Mandango and the tourists who visit it. In conclusion, we consider before allowing tourism in this place it must have all the necessary conditions.
