I found out that the character named Michael Curtis known as Ponyboy from the book called “The Outsider” by S.E Hinton in today’s lesson was a respectful, intelligent, caring, and an empathetic person. There are multiple reasons as to why I referred to the character named Ponyboy that way. For instance, at the drive-in theater, he didn’t seem disrespectful to other girls while other greasers were like Dally Winston. This action was appreciated by the girls and made him a part of those characteristics. In another scene, Ponyboy listened and tried viewing the perspective about the two different groups of the socs girl named Cherry. This describes how much of a comprehending and patient character he is towards people even for his group’s enemies which are the socs. According to the book called “The Outsider” by S.E Hinton in chapter 2, paragraph 63, it states “You two are too sweet to scare anyone. First of all, you didn't join in Dallas's dirty talk, and you made him leave us alone. And when we asked you to sit up here with us, you didn't act like it was an invitation to make out for the night. Besides that, I've heard about Dallas Winston, and he looked as hard as nails and twice as tough. And you two don't look mean.” In the text of paragraphs  52 and 53 as well, it states “Y’all sit up here with us. You can protect us. Johnny and I looked at each other... We had picked up two girls, and classy ones at that. Not any greasy broads for us, but real Socs.” Referring back to the book again in paragraphs 121 and 122, it states “You want to know something? She looked at me straight in the eye. Things are rough all over. I believe you, I said.” There are several inferences that I can create from this scenario. I think that Ponyboy was a well-mannered person due to the numerous different ways that he demonstrates his respect for the social people unlike most greasers. The character referred to Ponyboy does not represent any disregard nor bother towards them. Based on these pieces of evidence, I can support my inferences that Ponyboy was a well-behaved person was accurate. I believe this because in the quote he was described in many ways by the girls as an appropriate greaser for not being a bother to them. The greasers and socials were figuring out a way back to their neighborhood homes. As they were thinking of how to return to their home, one of the socials called the greasers "bums". This term made the greasers furious especially one of them named Two-bit. Due to that calling out, Two-bit had slowly begun to pull out a switch-blade to hurt the social with it. He was attempting to cause a conflict through a fight. He had a difficult time trying to control his own emotions because of the disrespectful word that the social called them.

They were in Darry Queen with Dally discussing about wanting to turn themselves in to the police. Dally also told them that Cherri was their spy in the Socs. When they went back to the church it was on fire and there were kids stuck inside so Johnny and Ponyboy went in. Johnny helped Ponyboy escape but a piece of roof hit him in the back and he fainted. Dally rescued him and they both got burned badly. In chapter 7 they were in the hospital, Ponyboy reunited with Soda and Darry and at that moment Darry cried. He actually cared for Ponyboy. In the end Johnny got a broken back and have to be in a wheelchair, adding salt on the injury he has to stay in his abused household. Ponyboy couldn't do anything so he went back home with soda and Darry. The next day Ponyboy woke up having the traumatizing dream he hade after his parents died. Two-bits visited them and he ended up babysitting Ponyboy while the others go work. He saving the kids in the church were on the newspaper and Randy the Socs who jumped them last time couldn't believe a greaser would do that. They met when Ponyboy and Two-bits were getting sodas and so Randy and ponyboy talked alone for some time. Randy told him all his frustration and turns out Socs have it hard too, being hate on because they have some money. The connection that I shared with the characters of the story was that they had to follow certain rules and priorities. They had agreed with the decision that whoever wakes up earlier than the other has to make breakfast while the person who wakes up after them has to clean the dishes. I relate to this situation because my family and I have our own responsibilities like housework that we take care of frequently. We don't do it at a certain time like the greasers do in the book but we still have to get it done sometime during the day. According to the book called "The Outsider" by S.E Hinton, it states "The first one up has to fix breakfast and the other two do the dishes. That's the rule around our house..." This piece of evidence from the text supports the connection that I have with the story by discussing the types of tasks that the greasers had to get completed to show respect towards one another in their house.
