Open question: deciding what/how to prototype a fellowship in year zero. we have identified what we (our staff) believes is a gap in development for educators wanting to step into coaching. But not sure how much desire there is and how much we should try to create vs having alumni tap into existing resources.

Across the state of NY, there's a gap in where talent is and where it's needed. We're hoping to work with some partners that we have in Rochester and Syracuse to support talent in those regions, but it's hard to know how our alums will take the nudge/suggestion to relocate. Since reciprocity for cert is difficult/not really possible in NY, our pool of potential alums is smaller than possibly in some other regions, since we would need to recruit alums who did the corps in Buffalo or NYC for the talent fellowship/partnership. I'm not even sure we're calling it a fellowship anymore tbd!

we have a "fellowship" that has been running for almost 10 years and we have a good system for the process itself. The application, the reviews, the interviews all have a solid baseline process and have been able to transition the process to different people on the team when needed. *"Fellowship" is more of a scholarship application process with some learning & development sprinkled in.

Philly/Atlanta Bright Spot & challenge

We've been successfully collaborating across regions for 3 years on our Academic School Leader Fellowship (ASLF) - and the fellowship is in its 6th cohort this year (began in just Philly in 2020).

Bright Spots:

-- We love the 2-region vibe & collaboration

-- We feel great about the session content that has been honed over 5 years, and participants give us very positive feedback.

-- We've seen success in Fellows advancing in their careers (taking on coaching roles, becoming APs, etc.)

-- ASLF alumni often stay engaged with us after their fellowship year.

The challenge is recruitment -- it was pretty easy to fill cohorts in the first couple years, but we now we have to make a concerted and targeted effort to reach folks.
