Does breaking down peroxide turn it into water and oxygen?

Materials:

Five test tubes, lighter or matches, peroxide , water, Four pieces of a liver, small wooden sticks.

Procedure:

Step 1) in the first test tube put a piece of the liver and water in it.

Step 2) in the second tube put peroxide and a piece of liver.

Step 3) in the third tube put peroxide in the tube and try to light it on fire to prove that it is not flammable.

Step 4) in the forth tube you put peroxide and a piece of liver when the reaction occurs light a wooden splint and try to like the bubbles.

Step 5) in the fifth tube put a piece of boiled liver and peroxide.

Data/Results:

test tube one shouldn't do anything. test tube two should bubble up and make water and oxygen. test tube three should make the lit splint burn out. test tube four you should be able to relight the wooden splint. test tube five nothing is going to happen.

Discussion:

what are enzymes? what are there roles in a chemical reaction? Enzymes are organic catalysts, the lower the amount of energy required for a chemical action to occur.

Describe what happened in test tube two when hydrogen peroxide was added to the live. What gas was produced? what liquid was left behind? Bubbles formed when the liver was added, oxygen is the gas that was produced, and water was left behind.

What effect does the red hot wood have on test tub four? Why is the flame being produced? The red hot wood kept on relighting, it did that because pure oxygen is flammable.

What effect does temperature have on the enzymes (test tube five)? the temperature made the activity of the enzyme decrease.

conclusion:

That is the lab results and how to do the liver enzyme lab.
