Nietzsche’s theory is often misunderstood and often associated with a power struggle. His theory is best described and received as the will to exploitation or the will to power. We go to college in order to get the approval and a fractional promotion from rich and powerful people. Those people that hold power over us could be our parents, managers, or our elders. Once we get out of school we have earned a degree or a title that gets us a small promotion in society. From there we work harder to get to the top of the food chain. We won’t stop until we reach the peak of success. Those people whose purpose is to only do good is a wasted time. They are denying themselves all desires and success for the desires and success of others. We sort of practice Nietzsche’s theory of dominance in everyday society when we practice restraints and establish leadership roles in our everyday lives.

@Elisabeth Copeland i agree with this statement on your theory of Nietzsche, this is a competitive world that we live in and its dog eat dog kind of mentality. If you don't have control over yourself , your most wanted, desires of the mind and flesh then you will not get far in life. Further more if you rely on religion to get you through life then you are considered weak or lazy in an industrialized world just like the slave mentality of Nietzsche. To be dominant in yourself and others one must have a will to power and let reason take over rather than desires or the judgement of other people corrupt your mind and bring down in your quest for power.

I believe Nietzsche's theory on slave morality and will to power really only applies to people who want to be in power or be seen or make their mark in history to be one of the greats. That's where the slave morality and will to power differ, you can be a person of great influence, knowledge, power, respect and yet nobody has heard of you. It is because you're content with the life you live and how you live it, you don't need to be dominant to be successful and being religious does not mean you are weak because you believe in a higher power, some even use that belief as motivation to strive for success because they have that support. I think the will to power mentality is more military or corporate based and really only applies to glory driven people that need that idea to step over and use people to get ahead and be successful, people in corporate or even Hollywood have unheard of standards requiring you to have that "will to power" in order to survive in that type of world. I don't think you need to think like that in order to be happy and even if you did believe in the will to power , it could be inaccurately interpreted just like when Hitler said he followed this way when really he was only following his desire of a perfect world.

I believe I could apply it to my own life but only on a personal level. Being in control of my wants to be a better person or a healthier person. I could use the "will to power" philosophy to gain better understanding of myself and there in my body to become healthy and fit as part of one my life goals. It can be a could philosophy to follow as long as you respect other peoples way of living and don't step over anyone to get what you want. Be a person , live your life to its fullest and regret nothing !

@desmonj488 I think Nietzsche would have loved the “dog eat dog mentality” that’s such a great comparison! Nietzsche thought if you were noble enough you could overcome your deepest desires but you are allowed some good in your life because after all you only get this one so you might as well make it the best one. I think if I was raised in a house that was very religious as his was I would also resent the teachings that were drilled into my head. Like, if you were to eat the same thing every day and you hate it and then you finally are able to make your own decisions you never eat that food again because of the bad memory attached to it.

Nietzsche's theory of will to power, master morality, and slave morality have a correlation. I believe that all humans possess all three of them at the same time. Will to power and master morality have a strong correlation which humans do not have to have any relationship with others in order to prove the dominance since humans can be dominance to themselves' mind and body, and that is what most people want, such as control of emotions and actions. However, slave morality enters no matter what if you are humans that have parents or living under the law, allowing humans to be obedience naturally. Also, all humans have master morality and slave morality, meaning anyone can be a noble if not consider any other factors. Nietzsche's theory reminded me when I was a president of an organization. Since I was the president, I had to value myself and create the norm in my organization which refers to Nietzsche's statement of "the ruler determines the conception "good"" (72). Even though I was the president of the organization, it was still under the control of the superiors. There was still a mandatory meetings with all the other president hosted by the another ruler which I had to be obedience to, which Nietzsche's theory of slave morality applies. The reason behind being the president was that I thought I could make the organization better but I had a little bit of will to power just a little more than people who did not try to become the president.

We are here for a degree and it will only be beneficial or useful only if people in power approves of our degrees. I like how you brought up that people only do good is a wasted time. Not just denying themselves, they are also putting themselves into followers. However, it is fine as @desmondj488 mentioned that master morality and slave morality are people's choices.

@desmondj488 As I mentioned above, I totally agree with you that Nietzsche's theory of will to power only applies to people who want to be in power. It is people's choice to be whether in power or under the power as you mentioned that people do not need those power to be happy. I like how you brought up that the person can be in power but unheard of. A person can be a noble in an small world or community but there are always superior beings of that small world or community like I was the president of the organization but there are people who ruled all the presidents.

@Takuto Masuda I agree that everyone has a bit of Will to power, master morality and slave morality in them. It is what makes each of us different from one another. It becomes an issue when one of these three components become unbalanced. That’s when a person can experience that power struggle I was talking about in my first post. I don’t believe all good is a waste of time however in Nietzsche’s theory he states that all good is a waste of time unless used to gain power/ status.
