Social determinants can put some at higher risk of addiction than others, be it influenced from family members, a poverty-stricken neighborhood where addiction and/or mental health disorders are more prevalent.

Economic insecurity impacts the recovery community as a major stressor that can trigger a recurrence in substance use addiction. Another perspective in how it can trigger a recurrence is by creating a lifestyle where work takes precedence over community in order to keep up with bills, so those in recovery lose some of their recovery capitol by not staying active in their recovery community and attending meetings.

The largest factoring impacts on the recovery community are health and state, economic impacts and social impacts through advocacy. The social movements have impacted the health and state greatly through Measure 110 and the creation of additional low barrier resources. Additional resources build our community through fellowship, allyship and fighting against the stigma around addiction. I've provided some links to share the sociological impact on my community, the recovery community based on these three factors.
