Idea 1 - Trailer

This first idea is one that has not been influenced by one of my initial 5 ideas, though I do feel this is a strong piece to put forward as a final idea. This piece is intended to accompany a trailer, hence the fairly short length to it. The theme I went for was horror, this is shown by my use of the key C minor, the minor key being the main component to the eerie feel to the piece. The breaths were used to fill a pause of silence with something to add to the spooky feel. The constant drone of a C octave is also a key to the suspense of the piece, unsettling the listener. Finally the use of the xylophone in both the intro and outro of this piece adds almost a child like feel to the piece, again, unsettling the listener.

Track 2 - Falling

This is a fairly common pop song, one that I feel is the strongest of my ideas, and that I'm more than willing to record to a professional level. This song does use one of my initial ideas, that being the "oh oh oh" riff in my 5th idea as a main melodic phrase that is repeated throughout.
As this is a pop song, the chords need to be fairly straightforward. In the verse I used Gm, F, Bb and Eb as my main chords, with that changing to Gm, Eb, Bb and F in the chorus section. These chords are repeated throughout with the occasional D major at the end of a phrase to add variation.
In the verses I use drums, piano, and bass in the backing. This is a strong combination of instruments that all work pretty well together. The pre-chorus sees a change in chords to Eb, F, Gm, F, Eb, F, Gm, D; these chords lead to the chorus very well as they have an ascending feel to them, with the D needing to be resolved with the first chord of the chorus.
The chorus is where everything becomes a little more interesting, with a string section added to the backing. This is to give a clear distinction between the verse and the chorus, and to enlarge the sound of the chorus as a whole.
The second verse uses the same chords as the first verse, but this time they are played over a drum machine, with a slightly differing pattern to the first verse, keeping the listener interested and to show variation within a singular piece.
The outro uses the same melodic phrase that is repeated throughout, it fits well at the end and gives the song a very well rounded ending.

Track 3 - The One

This final song is a cheesy, loved-up pop song, which is very different to the last. This song is based around the key of Eb, and is in a 3/4 time signature throughout, one that I have not used with either of my two other ideas.
The only two instruments used within this piece are voice and guitar, so there isn't that much to talk about instrumentally, aside from my use of picking in the first verse and chorus, and strumming for the rest of the piece. The chords used in the verse are Eb, Bb, and G#, again, a fairly basic chord structure for a pop song. Fm, G#, Eb, Bb, Fm, G#, Bb is used in the pre-chorus, the introduction of Fm shows a change in section of the song and makes the listener feel that more is going to come. The chord structure for the chorus is G#, Eb, Bb, Cm (all x3), Fm, G#, Bb; this structure us fairly typical of this type of song, but it is one that's very effective, as it starts on the fourth chord of the key.
The final section is a repeat of the chorus with altered lyrics. The picking pattern and quiet approach return to the song, that was clear in the first chorus, but this time it shows sadness, rather than happiness.
