They were often discriminated, and the Southerner's found a way for them not to vote, even thought the "Civil Rights Act" was in effect.&nbsp;<br><br>During the Voting Right Act of 1965, the government watched elections, for fairness, and African Americans started holding positions in the government.<br><br>After the Voting Rights Act of 1965, African Americans had a say in American Democracy.
