Theme-The chapter reveals the importance of one’s native language which holds the nation together. The theme was set in a very appropriate manner. One can feel what is the impact of prison and how they can obtain their freedom back. Message- Learning is not difficult if we do it with our heart. As Franz never understood the chapters explained by M.Hamel but on the last day he was supposed to understand the concepts what M.Hamel explained to them. Also one should also respect their native language as it symbolises the unity and also the ‘key to prison’ of any difficultly. Literary Devices-The literary devices used the chapter are as follows: 1. Metaphor- What a thunderclap these words were to me! 2. Alliteration-The last lesson. 3. Simile- Looked like little flags and as they had the key to prison.

Themes:-
• Patriotism, freedom of language and the love for one’s mother tongue are predominant.
• Importance of education and the necessity to respect and learn one’s own language.
• It is not justified to take away the natural right of the people to speak their mother tongue.

Message:-
“The last lesson” weights on the significance of schooling and the need to regard and get familiar with one's own language. This story causes us to notice the unreasonable act of semantic bullheadedness. It alludes to an irrational pride in one's own language while dismissing the wide range of various dialects as mediocre.
