Rule #1: Know Myself

“Chop Wood, Carry Water”. This is a book by Joshua Medcalf that talks about the importance of focusing on the process rather than the outcome in achieving success. It teaches that by mastering the simple tasks and embracing the journey, one can find fulfillment and success in any situation. I got this book as a gift in the seventh grade. Ever since, I’ve continually learned more about myself and engaged in things that seem challenging. This has changed my mindset and perspectives of all things in life. By mastering the simple tasks and falling in love with the process rather than the outcome promises success.

I have a hard time understanding the people who do not believe in God. Growing up in a very religious household I understand my perspective and my bias when it comes to religion. By reading more and understanding more about atheism I will attempt to understand why they believe in what they believe in.

My favorite podcast is Podcast P that are hosted by NBA player Paul George and his friend Jackie Long. Before listening to the podcast I always believed that by doing what is required you will be able to be successful in your craft. However in the past year of listening to this podcast my mind has changed on how much effort and time has to be given past what is required to truly be successful in it. My favorite episode of Podcast P is when they brought in former NBA player, Jeff Teague. This episode is my favorite because of how funny and inspiring Jeff Teague is. Jeff Teague was never the star on any team he played on but the amount of knowledge he gained and applied to his life shows how he still looked for the positives in life. Overall this podcast has changed my mindset on how I should be attacking my goals in life.

This is the quote I tend to always think about when being curious and approaching slowly. To take your time on things your curious about will result in a way better outcome than it would be if you were to rush into it. A common example can be rushing into a relationship. When embracing curiosity, it's wise to remember that often, a patient and gradual approach keeps one away from disappointing results.

My Identity as a member of the Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter Day Saints. Knowing that Catholicism is the dominant faith here at st Francis, my freshman year I tried my best to fit in. But as I grown at st Francis I came to find myself trying to figure out who I am. Through growing my faith in the Lord I became a proud member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Being able to own my true faith identity has really helped me in all aspects of my life.

After the identification worksheet one thing I learned about myself is that God and my family are the center of my life. By staying informed and finding varied sources within in the app I know that I will be updated on all of the information needed.

The church I am apart of and believe in is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Church and my faith in it is the foundation of my life. This identifier is the one I think about the most. This identifier has positively influence me, others, and my life in general. Since we were younger my grandparents instilled the importance of putting the Lord and church above everything. My Dad always used to tell us, “Faith without works is dead” and to me this meant to always practice and carry yourself as the Lord has. Being raised in the church I have learned to take the valuable lesson is learn and apply it to my daily life. As I transition into my young adult years I tend to put my faith into the Lord in times of difficulty’s and rely on him. Overall, I am forever grateful to be raised in this church and to have learned the importance of putting the Lord first in all we do.

My ethnicity is Tongan and Native Hawaiian. My Mom is Tongan and my Dad is Hawaiian. My ethnicity is an identifier I think about most under religion. This identifier influences my perspective on myself, others, and in general in a positive way. Knowing that my ethnicity makes up 0.02% of the U.S I carry myself with a responsibility and respect. A responsibility that I have to set that example and always be on my best behavior for the younger generations. In Respect I gotta put on for my last name for my grandparents who’s immigrated here. Race fits into this social identifier because it is just the umbrella over my specific heritage. I was mainly raised in the Tongan culture. I was raised by my grandparents on my Mom’s side. My grandparents are originally from the Island of Tonga and immigrated here in 1967. Being raised in the Tongan culture taught me many things. The major things instilled in me as a child were the Importance of putting the Lord first, Respecting my elders, and Family.

As an identifier I rarely think about it but am forever grateful for it. This identifier positively influence myself, others, and in general. Coming from a public school to private school was a really big transition. The public school I went to wasn’t the best but it was the closest to my house. As a junior here at Saint Francis I am able to tell the differences between public and private schools. Being able to recieve a private education is truly a blessing. Seeing first hand how much more my teachers care now than before is truly impactful. Before attending Saint Francis I made a promise to myself that if my parents pay for my high school education I will find a way pay for my college education. As of now I have received ten full ride scholarship offers to plays football at the collegiate level. A big part of my success has been my private school education and how much the teachers and staff truly look out for the students

Of all the classes I have taken here at Saint Francis as of right now I am most thankful for Moral Issues. The progression I have made in learning more about myself has significantly grown from the first day to right now. Mrs. Moorhouse did a great job of keeping the energy high in class so I was barely falling asleep unlike my other classes. Knowing the things I know about myself right now will really help me going into my senior of high school.

My Grandma means the world to me. Growing up it was my grandparents who really instilled the core values that I still hole close today. I remember waking up every Sunday morning to my grandma putting 1000 pounds of baby powder and baby lotion on my face. I remember going over the times table with her until midnight and her saying that “if you know the times table you’ll be good in math”. As my grandma gets old I still make fun of her for being somewhat a celebrity because of all the people she knows. My grandma is the most humblest and strongest person I know. I am forever grateful for everything she has done for me and my brothers.

My Mom is my why. Since birth i’ve been a Mommaz boy. Growing up I was always the closest with my Mom. Knowing the sacrifices she made for all of my siblings is truly a blessing. I remember her always coming home late from working overtime but always smiling when walking through the front door. My Mom is really my best friend. Sometimes my Dad makes fun of me for it but my Mom and I agree it’s because he’s jealous. I can go on and on about my Mom but i’ll just keep it short. I am forever grateful to have the best Mom in the whole entire WORLD.
