This image was takes after the Federation of Australia. The Australian Commonwealth decides to send all of the best soilders from each pre-exising colonies. Also due to ties to Britain they also sent trained officers such as Lord Kithcener to teach the less-able troops. The man in the center with the prominent mustache is a Commanding Officer with his high ranked flight. We can see rifles they used in their training and in the war.

The two men walking have their uniform on. Their Hats suggest head gear protection due to the trench wars. they have 'webbing' on with water botles hanging from them and having full feild bags suggests their traveling from one front to another. The dirt is almost proof of used land. The Australian Imeril Force (AIF) was in 1914 to support the British Empire. Australian troops were sent before the war to Egypt, they are moving to fight in Gallipoli.

Soldiers wrote for many differnt purposes. Some were writing home to tell their families that they are okay, others wrote to record the climax of their boring narritive life. Some wrote as of there was not war while others exaggerated the horrors of the war. Many wrote about what they saw and felt. Some wrote because it was their only connection to a peaceful world.
