How is “destructive silence”(when one stays silent about things that are difficult, it can cause harm) a concept in both stories?

Many districts stayed silent about The Hunger Games even though many didn't like it. The Hunger Games was a "game" where 2 people from each district (12) would be put into a huge arena to fight to the death. While many people didn't like the idea of this they continued doing it for the case that their district might win. When your district wins you get money and food. People are dying in The Hunger Games due to people not standing up for themselves to stop The Hunger Games

In "The Lottery" the townspeople stayed silent when they shouldn't have because they blindly followed tradition. The text says" 'Seventy-seventh year I been in the lottery,' Old Man Warner said as he went through the crowd. 'Seventy-seventh time.' " This shows they have been doing the lottery for years. Why quit now?

"The Lottery" showed many displaying destructive silence by not standing up for themselves in difficult times. I saw that in the short film version of "The Lottery" . I witnessed this by looking at the townspeople's faces. The villagers looked sad and worried, like they just wanted the lottery to be over with. I can also see this by some people in the town talking about other towns that quit the lottery. " 'Some places have already quit lotteries. ' Mrs. Adams said. "

" ' Over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery.' "

These pieces of evidence show that people are aware that other towns are quitting the lottery and that some what to but they don't due to them wanting to keep up tradition.
