Tris is unable to conform one faction, but uses her skills wisely.

Emerson employs various appeals in his text..

Logos: Emerson emphasizes that being misunderstood in a part of being great. He creates a logical appeal by listing examples of the famous and genial men from history. He substantiates his words with tangible evidence of his words.

Ethos: Emerson incorporates God into his essay, therefore creating an ethical appeal to man. God is the omnipotent supreme power, and man cannot compare. With this ideal it seems foolish to contradict the position God has chosen for an individual. Emerson beckons for the audience to " accept the place the divine Providence has found for you".

Pathos: A pathetic appeal is utilized to inspire the audience to trust in their own competence. The quote, "The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do , nor does he know until he has tried" prods the audience to unleash the power within themselves that they are unaware of.
