Share a word, a phrase, a list, a poem, maybe even a photo or a link to a song. What does 'home' mean to you - politically, spiritually, in your body, in regard to the earth, in kinship and friendship, in community and among enemies, systemic and otherwise?

Shekhinah-
I learned recently that in Hebrew this refers to the dwelling place of God, but can also be used to describe the nests of animals, particularly birds. As someone who finds restoration and hope in watching the birds in my garden, this concept is now a favorite new addition to my theology. I always feel like bird visitations are sacred.

We recently sold our church building; home to two congregations, at one time three. Now the building will be transitional housing for 12 families and the organization who helps them find sustainable housing as well as remaining the home of the two congregations. The definition of “home” has expanded for us, and it has been pure joy even in the chaos.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Anna's sharing. I also had a next built on my back patio this spring. I loved checking it each time I went out - from a respectful distance, of course. I was watched carefully by the robin who perched nearby. I couldn't see into the nest, but momma robin eventually kept sitting on the nest even when I came out - it felt like kinship, sort of.
I am an AA member of 5 plus years sober. I have found myself finding such beauty in nature since becoming sober - much more than I ever did before. As I was walking my little doggie, Ebony recently a thought miraculously planted itself in my brain - ALL LIFE IS SACRED. I know I must always treat it that way.

Thanks for sharing,
Kathy Hyde
Elkton MD
