They have been ruled by Romans, The Franks, The Capetian Kings,

The Valois, and by the 15th century France became a strong centralized kingdom. 

By the 16th century France was becoming richer and grew rapidly. 

It was once united with Germany and Italy.

By the 17th century France had an absolute monarchy. During the 18th century trade grew and there were more middle class people.

Napoleon I and III were leaders of France and played an important role in their history.

The French Revolution 1789 - 1799 made the decline of powerful monarchy and churches and the rise of democracy and nationalism.

France of one of the most modern countries as well as a leader among the European Nations.
