- One of tourism's socioeconomic contributions is the money tourists bring contributes to income for the local community, creating jobs and revenue for the local economy.
- An example of positive impacts in Grand Canyon National park would be the fact that it generated $710 million for local economy in 2021, and Canaima National Park at $6 million for the local economy.
- Tourism's negative impacts on the environment would be pollution, loss of natural/protected lands, harm to local species of animals, displacement of local people and lastly it can leave a large carbon foot print.
- The negative impacts of tourism development in Grand Canyon would be that the introduction of non-native animal species into the park disrupting the environment, littering, depletion of natural resources and pollution. Canaima National Park, it would be the confrontations of the local community who only want to protect the land and the government over the pressure placed on them by tourism companies, the effects of foreign architecture on native house design, mining for precious metal in the park especially after covid19 depleting its natural resources.
Fatima Bulur
Estephanny Almiron
Jose Arrocha
Maria Clara Pierini

There are many social benefits of tourism, demonstrating positive social impacts. These might include preserving the local culture and heritage; strengthening communities; provision of social services; commercialization of culture and art; revitalization of customs and art forms and the preservation of heritage. In a number of destinations, tourism helps to ensure higher water quality and better protection of nature and local natural resources. It can generate additional resources to invest in environmental infrastructures and services. Some negative impacts of tourism are increasing in prices, increasing demand for basic services and goods from tourists will often cause price hikes that negatively affect local residents whose income does not increase proportionately. The economic impacts of travel and tourism include creating jobs, contributing to better services for locals, and promoting social stability.

Tourism bring a lot of socio-economic contribution to a country because it can boost the revenue of the economy, create new jobs, increase in labor supply and standard of living, improved investment in infrastructure and services. As for the social/cultural aspect it can increase local participation in destination activites and it can strengthen community values and traditions.

Some examples of tourism development in New York City are creation of employment in the service industry, increased value of real estate, increased foreign investment. In Margarita you can notice development of new infrastructure and facilities, preservation of natural heritage, and also creation of new jobs.

Negative tourism impacts include: price increases, increased income gap, destruction of habitat and ecosystems, weakening of community values or traditions, increased criminal activity.

Some negative impact of tourism development in New York are increase in criminal activity, increase in prices and loss of community space.

· What is tourism´s socio-economic contribution (positive impacts)?

Tourism has a positive impact on economic growth and development since when there is tourist activity, visitors increase and spend more money in the destination, which undoubtedly leads to an increase in GDP and economic growth of the place itself where said activity was carried out. tourist activity.

The main positive economic impacts of tourism are mainly related to foreign exchange earnings, due to the contribution to public income, the generation of employment and business opportunities.

Some socioeconomic benefits that tourism entails in the short term, include job creation, diversification of income sources, promotion and protection of local culture, profitability of local economic activities, among others. On the other hand, some positive socioeconomic benefits of tourism in the long term, we can highlight the reduction of poverty, the increase of local pride, reduction of the rural exodus, the assessment of equity, among other benefits.

· What are tourism’s negative impacts (e.g. economic, environmental, social impact)?

Tourism also carries some negative environmental, social and economic impacts. The negative effects that can occur thanks to tourism could be the destruction and fragmentation of habitat and loss of associated biodiversity due to human actions that can harm them. Likewise, it also has a negative impact on the social sphere since it can generate incompatibility of projects with regional socioeconomic trends, immigration, health risks and an increase in crime and insecurity. And the negative impacts that tourism can have on economic aspects could be local inflation, excessive import of resources and supplies, among others.

· List some examples of the negative impacts of tourism development in the selected tourism destinations.

Tourism has a large impact on Hawaii’s natural environment in a negative way. Islands like Hawaii rarely have the land capacity or resources to sustain the amount of tourism that they receive. The creation of infrastructure to support this tourism has caused a degradation of Hawaii’s natural environment. This takes a strain on Hawaii’s wildlife with now 44% of the United States endangered species being located in Hawaii. This further has a domino effect of impacting the crops in Hawaii. With less wildlife the land has become less fertile therefore making it harder to grow crops. Angel Falls in Venezuela does not have any negative effects of tourism development. This is so because tourism development as a whole is underdeveloped in Venezuela at the moment. They are still working to build on that.

In the case of Busch Garden, being a tourist park, it promises that tourists and citizens of the same country move to the area, promoting tourism and visits to the state. In the case of Isla de la Tortuga the situation is very similar, it promotes tourism in the same country and that the natives want to know more about its beaches, it also gives visibility to the care and maintenance that this type of natural attractions deserves, giving work and recognition to the people who maintain and make life within the Island

People get to experience the world for what is and they get to travel. People can explore new places and see new things for the first time ever. It’s pretty cool by just going on vacation or a small trip that a person can see so much and do such fun activities it shows that the little things in the world can matter a lot. Which is why people should appreciate the trips they go on. People also can find out what they like the most and they might find new activities that can further them in their lives.

3.A simple ,but overlooked part of tourism is how it affects the people who already live in the area. When a large number of people are going to a specific location the price of food and goods is going to increase without a doubt. Another negative impact economically is how taxes are always going to get jacked up as well. Trains,Buses and any type of transport fuel driven damages the environment in many different ways. The carbon emissions that are in the air are very bad for our environment and many airlines are trying to put an end to it by 2030. Negative social impacts can be anything from tourists not getting along with people who already reside there or even crime in the overall area.

4. Isla de la Tortuga:

*Creation of hotels and even an airport to be El Gran Centro Turístico del Caribe:

1.- The "island has potential for tourism but it must be low impact, so the construction of ten luxury hotels and the construction of an airstrip cannot be considered as a development that meets these requirements". It is important to note that an attempt was previously made to build an airstrip on the island and, although the work was halted, experts stated at the time, "An access road was being built that involved earth moving, resulting in the modification of the topography, destruction of vegetation and fossil marl (a type of sedimentary rock) and fragmentation of the habitat," says OEP Venezuela, (2022).

2.-.Risk to the natural wealth and archeological heritage of Isla de la Tortuga. There are archaeological remains that testify to the passage of American colonists through the island some 1,800 years ago, with great scientific value.

3.- Any tourist development, with the fragility of the ecosystem, would provoke the emigration of fauna and would not allow the arrival of sea turtles.

4.- Serious threat to biodiversity and the health of the ecosystems in the area. Not only of the island but of the archipelagos and ecosystems of this delicate bioregion.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

It is necessary to consider some negative impacts associated with the activity and alternatives offered in its facilities that range from being an amusement park with different themes based on destinations exotic in the African continent as well as activities with the different species of animals with which they have. Here are some negative impacts:

1. In relation to animals and their environment, the problem of the adaptation process of the different animal species is mentioned, where they must adapt to an environment where they learn not to react to stimuli so that tourists can approach or interact with them. at one point. Of course this will have the consequence of subjecting the animals to high stress.

2. On the other hand, and in relation to those 250 species which inhabit different places within Busch Gardens, there is the potential eating disorder of the animals, since in some cases they are allowed to be fed by visitors, which if not with specific foods that are part of the diet of this species can generate an eating disorder that affects the vitality and quality of life of animals.

3. From an environmental point of view, an increase in the number of people who visit a tourist destination is accompanied by an increase in the supply and demand for products and services. This increase in consumption translates into an increase in waste and garbage generated by people, not managing the waste correctly can bring about a serious alteration to the environment such as air and soil pollution.

4. From the economic point of view, there is a transitory increase in the price level since when more is demanded than can be offered, it produces an increase in the price level, which happens to a greater extent with hotel services. Which affects the local economy of Tampa Bay.

Positive impacts of tourism on both Acadia National Park and Morrocoy National Park would include consistent maintenance protection. At these national parks, tourists are often going with ecotourism in mind given their nature friendly attractions and community driven local businesses. With public areas consistent flows of tourists, the parks are kept clean and protected by locals, visitors, and local government agents. One negative impact of tourism is it causes more pollution in the environment. Another negative impact is it can force local people out of their homes causing them to have to relocate. Lastly, it can impact endangered animals by putting more pressure on them and their environment because tourism can lead to the loss of land and resources.

The negative impacts tourism has on Acadia national park and Morrocoy National Park is pollutants in the park, loss of land, and people often litter in the park.

While there was attempt to get my team to meet, I thought I would at least reply to answer some of the questions at this time:

What is tourism's socio-economic contribution (positive impacts)? Tourism can really help in the enhancement of job opportunities for many populations. For example, I have many family members that live in Florida so when I go to visit, I notice that a majority of the community thrives and works in the hospitality industry. While this is a booming industry, it's really thanks to those tourists that visit yearly and seasonly that make it such a big industry in Florida.

List some examples of the positive impacts of tourism development in the selected tourism destinations.

As we look at a place such as Florida, it is one of the most popular to live and popular to live states. With places such as Disney, beach resorts, famous cities- Florida is a perfect example of a State that allowed for Tourism to take over and lead in the industry setting.

What are tourism’s negative impacts (e.g. economic, environmental, social impact)?

Tourism can in fact be negative for those that pay to live somewhere year round. While its great for the economy of a specific area it can often have negative effects on the social aspects.

List some examples of the negative impacts of tourism development in the selected tourism destinations.

Out of all the impacts that tourism can have, its biggest factor is the negative impact on the environment. Massive amounts of waste, water overuse and even a large carbon footprint as huge reasons why tourism can affect an area.

- Hunter Hughes

As far as negative environmental impacts, some might argue that the sanitation of larger, more populated cities becomes more difficult during the most crowded times of the year. As far as social impacts, one might not return to a certain location due to a negative experience including a local, something that should be considered in popular cities with higher crime rates.

List some examples of the negative impacts of tourism development in the selected tourism destinations.

Gentrification, in some cases, locals are forced to leave their homes. Waste and pollution increase more.

The positive impacts of tourism are Canaima National Park remains as remote and inaccessible as ever with no road links to the popular tourist areas and access only being possible by air. These high mountain plateaus cover around 65% of the park area and at lower levels. Stay on officially designated trails. Cutting across switchbacks and between trails, going into closed areas, and climbing cliffs are activities that cause severe environmental damage and can be dangerous. These activities are prohibited.
The negative impacts are drones are not allowed anywhere in the Reserve or Beach, carbon footprint , and water pollution.
