From 25 June to 1 September 2026, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of attractions. Combined with free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England, families and young people will be able to enjoy experiences that make summer special, including visits to the kinds of cultural and educational attractions that enrich children's lives outside the classroom.

As part of this campaign, we have launched an attraction finder website which allows families to type in their postcode and find participating venues near them to make the most of summer savings. To use the attraction finder, please visit https://summersavings.gov.uk.

We had a fantastic time on Friday, when we had our Teddy Bears Picnic 🐻 🧺 🐻 for our end of year celebration. The children all brought a Teddy Bear and a picnic blanket, and we enjoyed lots of lovely treats in the shade in the forest 🌳🌳🌳 We danced and had a great time together. Then we cooled off back inside Willow Class with an ice lolly 🍦A huge thank you to the PTA who funded our picnic.

The children are proud of themselves, as we have been thinking about "Growing with God" and what we have learnt this year in Reception, in preparation for our Church service on Friday.

We have continued to stay safe in the heat and we have taken this as a a learning opportunity to talk about how, and why, it is so important to stay safe in the sun ☀️ 😎 💦🥤

In our Mastering Number, we are continuing to review the Mathematical Concepts that we have worked on this year. We have all been joining in with Maths activities at the same time, in preparation for the transition to Year 1.

We are looking forward to our last week together in Willow Class, with our class party, our sports afternoon and church service.

As we are coming to the end of this academic year, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our families for your wonderful support. It has been a pleasure spending this year with your children. Enjoy the Summer, making memories together ☀️

Cherry Class has had another wonderful week of learning. The children have been working incredibly hard to complete their final writing pieces, creating their own versions of Grandad's Secret Giant. It has been lovely to see their creativity and confidence shine through in their writing.

In Maths, we have been exploring fractions. Building on our understanding of finding halves, quarters and thirds of shapes, we have moved on to finding halves, quarters and thirds of amounts and numbers. The children have shown great perseverance and are becoming much more confident with this important skill.

The weather has certainly been hot, hot, HOT again this week! To keep cool, we enjoyed some of our movement breaks in the forest, where the shade made it a much more comfortable place to play and explore. The children never cease to amaze me during our forest sessions. Their creativity is wonderful to see, and they consistently demonstrate fantastic teamwork, imagination and problem-solving skills while working and playing together.

As we come to the end of the school year, I would like to say what a pleasure it has been to teach such a kind, enthusiastic and hardworking class. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing summer break and enjoy making lots of special family memories together.

We've got so good at our 3D shapes that we have been making robots using cones, cuboids, cylinders and cubes!

We've been practising prepositional phrases in Year 2 - on, in, under, in front and behind and we're all getting really good at signing our morning song!

Thank you for all the support this year and for making working with our Cedar Class families so enjoyable. We will miss our three pupils moving up to Sycamore in September but we are so incredibly proud of the progress they have made in our KS1 Resource Base!

The children visited their new classes on Monday and spent the afternoon with their new teachers. I wish them all the best of luck in their classes for next year and I know they will all do their very best.

In English, we have been completing our final writeaway task. We have been responding to a letter from a ‘curious caver’ with information about how caves are formed as well as explaining how Blue John was formed.

In maths, we have been continuing our work on fractions. We have been looking at the denominator to order fractions and making fraction walls to support us with this.

In cricket this week, we put all of our the skills that we have been practising together in lots of different games.

In music, we have been learning about ballads, including their features and creating our own.

While our Year 6s have started to prepare for their leavers assembly, after 2 fun days at High School, the Year 5s have been busy with some practice SATs papers just so they can get used to what it is like-they have coped so well and I couldn't be prouder!

We have also continued our written methods in maths-finishing multiplication and moving onto written division-tricky stuff.

We have finished our Geography after analysing all the different types of energy, and which ones we feel would be best to use.

We head into the last week now together, with a sports day, a Westfield's Got Talent rehearsal and show, a leavers assembly and a church service to navigate/cry through in the last week-what a roller coaster this last week will be!

As we begin to wind down for the end of the academic year, we have been completing our final units of work while revisiting key learning to help consolidate understanding and prepare for September.

We've shared some wonderful moments together in the sunshine and have had great fun exploring the new turn-taking games recently purchased for our classroom. These have provided excellent opportunities to practise communication, cooperation and social skills.

Miss Smith has also been focusing on developing the children's respectful listening skills during her lessons, and it has been fantastic to see how positively the children have responded.

We are looking forward to our final week together, with lots of exciting events planned, including Sports Day, our class party and Westfield's Got Talent. It's sure to be a wonderful way to celebrate a fantastic year in Sycamore Class!

Tasty Tuesday this week we made jam and cream filled donuts. We also did a craft of making tissue squishies using cling film and tissue and decorating them. We ended our afternoon by going into the forrest and having a game of hide and seek!

Wednesday we used Beech class for our session. We continued on writing the letters to England team and also enjoyed playing with the lego and the home corner. As it was a hot day, we got out the tablets to help keep the children calm and cook. The children always love this!

Thursday as it was another hot one, we got the tablets out again but this time challenged them to use the tablets to find objects around the room of different colours, meanings and shapes. This activity was really enjoyed by all!

Friday we watched 'A babysitters guide to monster hunting' with crackers, soft cheese and cucumber and had ice pops to cool us down.

Whilst at St John Ambulance all badgers will learn first aid throughout the year as well as other topics e.g. performance badger, eco badger, community badger and caring badger to name a few. Each topic we teach earns them a certificate and a badge for them to wear on their uniform, we aim to help them achieve 3 badges a year. Every 3 badges will earn them a bronze badge, then silver and finally Super badger award, this is the highest award a badger can achieve. At the end of the year, we aim to hold a presentation evening to show all these achievements.

We will fill each session with lots of fun including games and crafts helping them learn life skills and meet new friends. They will also have lots of opportunities to attend activity days on some weekends and residentials throughout the year.
