Hope, the protagonist of the story claims that science has had a real important impact on her life. Science shows her the complications of life and being able to derive happiness from a discovery and writing it all down is the real defense about forgetting something important. It makes me think that nature has taught her how to grow as a person. And that it will help her in the future as she discovers the world outside of her bubble.

Internal conflict is clear in Hope's life. As a College student, Hope had to support her tuition by working ten jobs such as a secretary, photographer, swim coach, and runner at a hospital. By this point I bet she was going through so much stress. Hope claims that " I also discovered that I could set my subconscious to work on a specific task while my conscious mind was occupies with performing workday rituals. "This conveys how Hope is a determined person because not only is she struggling with internal conflict but also with external. As I continue reading this book I have hope that the protagonist will grow in that area of her life.
