Today's scenario
Crafts is mainly performed by the mid-aged people, hardly 3-4% of the young youth is involved in this legacy because of the unstable income in the profession.

Due to the western influence in the society, the youth is not much aware of crafts happenings in their own region. This results in ultimate loss of the knowledge and skill of the craftsmen. Due to this behavior, many craftsmen are looking for alternatives job opportunities and there are some craftsmen who are trying to maintain their ancestral legacy but their coming generation is not interested in continuing it as a result craft activities are dying.
Craftsmen have skill and knowledge which they have evolved over a long period of time.
Even if a product globalizes the knowledge and the skills are not easily adapted by the people who are not performing this for ages. Therefore we Indians should not only preserve it but also promote it.

Apart from government schemes, the private sector has also played an important role in maintaining the craft legacy Brands like Anokhi, Fabindia, and national handloom helped in keeping craft relevant and linked to the contemporary consumers.Since there is no direct contact between artisans and urban consumer these organizations provide design input from the beginning which ensures that the final product is aper the requirement of the contemporary market. It helps the artisans to create a new and unique application by using the same technique and raw material. For example- Anokhi must have trained block printers to modify their traditional motifs to create toiletry bags. Brands like these not only provide livelihood to craftsman but also helps in preserving their skill and knowledge.
