The mom said in the newspaper that Leo liked to collect neckties, so someone read it and got it for him. It's not stalking, it's reading. It was a philanthropic (Loving of the humans) act.

She seems like she doesn't care what people think because she has her grandmother's wedding dress on. She doesn't buy lunch from the cafeteria like most people do. And she carries a canvas sack for her lunch.

We knew Stargirl was weird because of the way everyone wanted to see her, talk about her. And the author listed the items she carried as if they were weird.

In the story you can tell Stargirl is going to be an interesting main character because there are a couple full pages just about her.
