Stronger Together: Messages of Support from the Occupational Therapy Community by Heather McKay

Dear Occupational Therapy friends and colleagues, The outpouring of support we've received from our OT community following Hurricane Helene has reminded us how much of a family we truly are. Your encouragement, offers of help, and warm thoughts gave our faculty the fortitude and optimism needed to begin recovery and restructuring. Now, as our students prepare to return to their studies after weeks of occupational disruption, uncertainty, and loss, we want to extend that same support to them. Our inaugural MSOT cohort has shown incredible adaptiveness and dedication to the profession, stepping up to rebuild occupations for themselves, their families, and communities across the Appalachian region. They have witnessed firsthand the power of shared occupations and the strength gained from our collective capacity to adapt and flourish together through life's challenges. As we return to school, we invite you—students, practitioners, and educators alike—to post a message or photo on this Padlet board to welcome back App State OT students. Whether it’s a kind word, a hopeful note, or a re-iteration of the well wishes you’ve already shared with our faculty, your support will mean the world to them. Together, through the power of occupation, we can remind one another that brighter days are ahead and that in our OT family, we are never alone. With heartfelt thanks, App State OT Faculty Team

No one thinks this is something you will have to endure during graduate school, and so we want to send you love and support as you navigate it, on top of everything else! Graduate school in and of itself is a lot of mental and physical energy, so I am praying for peace, energy, and reassurance as you all are going through multiple things at once. Have hope that you are going to become great OTs and get through this together!
