Dear Trey,

I keep getting into these bad situations with unfamiliar people because of peer pressure. I went out around town with my cousins husband and his mistress and while we were out he ended up breaking her nose! I don’t feel safe in these situations and don’t know how I keep getting into them. What should I do to avoid them?

-Sincerely I need help (Nick)

Dear I need help,

It seems that your problem with getting into these situations is mostly because you can’t tell people no. Next time when someone asks you to go do something with them, think if that would put you into an uncomfortable situation or not, and of it does tell them no.

-I wish you the best, Trey

Everyone around town has been whispering about Tom saying that hes questionable and might be beating Daisy. I've heard from a few people around town that Tom is sneaking off with a mistress from the Valley of Ashes and beating her as well. "“Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!” shouted Mrs. Wilson. “I’ll say it whenever I want to! Daisy! Dai ——”Making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand." here you can see that the rumors about Tom and his mistress are true, as well as seeing that he beats Myrtle, who is his mistress. Too add on to Tom being a questionable man, Daisy had been with Gatsby quite often lately and he hasn't seemed to notice at all. What kind of husband doesn't notice his wife gone for hours at a time with another man?

This afternoon a woman named Myrtle Wilson, wife of George Wilson, was struck by a car going 40 mph and killed in the Valley of Ashes. Witnesses say that it was a new, yellow car that was previously seen being driven by Tom Buchanan earlier that day. "It was a yellow car, he said, big yellow car. New.
See the accident? asked the policeman.
No, but the car passed me down the road, going faster’n
forty. Going fifty, sixty.", said a man from the scene. Tom Buchanan states that although he was seen driving said car a few hours before that it wasn't him driving at the time of the accident. "That yellow car I was driving this afternoon wasn’t mine — do you hear? I haven’t seen it all
afternoon.” Although Tom claims that Jay Gatsby, the popular party holder in West Egg, was driving the car that caused the accident, Tom still remains as our main suspect. We have heard from several other sources that Tom and Gatsby have some sort of hatred towards each other but we aren't sure if this new information pertains to the developing case yet. We will be sure to put out updates as we get them and to anyone who has any information about this please contact the Valley of Ashes police department.

Everybody wants to be rich but it seems that no one talks about the problems of being rich. The want to be rich in society has created a divide between social classes and this is starting to cause problems. This divide that's tearing us apart is called classism. Classism is the idea that one social class is superior to others or that a class is lower than others. In my book, The Great Gatsby, I commented on this topic and some of the issues surrounding it. "You live in west egg, she remarked contemptuously.
I know somebody there.
I don't know a single--
You must know Gatsby."
Here you can see how even though West egg and East egg are very similar and both rich communities, they stay separated from each other because of social class. "She’s not leaving me! Tom’s words suddenly leaned down
over Gatsby.
Certainly not for a common swindler who’d have
to steal the ring he put on her finger." Here you can see two people from different social classes being divided by classism. Even though Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby are in the both rich now, Tom looks down upon Gatsby because he came from a poor family and not from a wealthy one like Tom did. In society, people consistently will look down on others for no reason other than their social class. Even if one was born into a rich family and lived at the very top social class their whole life, those below them would still hate them strictly because they are in a higher social class than them. In conclusion, classism not only tears society apart, but also effects everyone no matter where they came from or how much money they have.
