Dear Tom, I have been thinking about you a lot as this very special birthday approaches and I realize that you and Louise have been a part of our lives for almost 50 years! You and Alex  are the old guard of Cuervo but back then you were the new guys, of course. The two of you formed such a good relationship from the beginning that great things happened for Cuervo when you and Alex put your heads together. The projects you guys launched were phenomenal! From Beach Volleyball, to creative advertising and marketing, there was always something new up your sleeves. I still crack up when I see the photos of Alex with  the girls wearing the Adelita style leather belts with shot glasses. Lili and Tanya especially remember the campaigns with Pierce Brosnan and Willie Nelson-the latter appearing in a life size cutout for a 21st birthday on campus-a party still talked about!

 Even more special to Alex and me and our daughters Lili and Tanya, you and Louise became friends-the best kind that stick together for decades and watch our children grow up, get married, and have those grandchildren. We became even closer when the work world was in the past as we grew older. I remember our daughters asking what they could do to be on your Christmas card list-they thought your funny Christmas letters were the best cards we got!  So many memories!  I am sorry Alex is no longer with us to celebrate with you but I am sure that he is watching from somewhere and wishing you well. And I promise that when we get through this pandemic, I will visit you and Louise at your new digs in California.

I met Tom 11 years ago at SCORE. What a complete gentleman!
What knowledge! What compassion for poor people attempting to start a business! ....
I was in awe of your Dad from day1. He became MY mentor. At some point he became my friend. He always had my respect. 

Because of Tom, I got involved in coaching Marines at Camp Pendleton. Because of Tom, I now coach at Cal St. Fullerton's Veteran Resource Center (526 student vets, and 760 vet family/dependent students). Tom's influence is alive and thriving.
I believe that Tom's huge heart has its own gravitational pull. Without knowing it, he taught me to become interested in our military veteran's lives. 

Tom and I enjoyed a good many laughs when we were together. (working wasn't working when I was with Tom -- it was fun or inspiring, or both!).
I once asked Tom, "What was your most memorable ad campaign for Jose Cuervo?"   His reply ... After a long day of trying to create a concise, meaningful byline for the Brand, we 'spliced the mainbrace' with a few cold ones.  The byline came to me and we rejoiced!

That was an unforgettable first date.  It made me realize that this was a guy who would never let boredom seep into our lives, one who placed  a premium on having fun.  And that's how it's been ever since.  There have been some glorious times and some not-so-glorious ones.  We've had the privilege of living and working (and playing tennis in my case) in four different foreign countries and been blessed with four fantastic kids.  It's been a great ride with plenty of ups and downs over 63 years -- and it's never, ever, been boring.
