What is The American Dream?

What I think The American Dream means is the belief of anyone regardless of where they were born or what they were born as, can attain their own version of success in a society which means everything is a possibility for everyone. I believe that you could do whatever you want and be whoever you want to be. People may think the American Dreams are "fake" but everyone in the world has dreams and desires and what they wanna be when they grow up and other people don't know what they want to do yet. They still have a while to think about it though they don't have to know right away. They have time still, but this is my understanding of the American Dream.

My American Dream is to become a Marine Biologist when I grow up and study about life in the ocean and just about the oceans themselves. They investigate the behavior and physiology processes of marine species or the diseases and also the environmental conditions that affect them. I just want to do something to be successful in life and prove to people that the American Dream means you could do anything or be anyone you want in life.

AD Interview

The person I chose for my interview was my mom, Lucinda Cruz. She said that the American Dream means to her "freedom" which means she has the choice to do whatever she wants however she wants. She said that when she was growing up she wanted to be a medical billing and coding because she could stay at home to do it. She said that her American Dream was to be healthy and have a good life with her own family. She told me her influence for her American Dream was her mom, because she did not want to grow up to be like her. Her hopes and dreams came true because she had an amazing family with her 4 kids that help her with everything and anything she needs help with. She told me that the United States is still a "land of opportunity" because everyone can achieve something everyday. The one piece of advice she was given was to try her best and to never give up because at the end of the day it was always her against the world and she did take this advice because she does her best everyday to make sure me and my siblings are healthy and happy. The piece of advice she gave me was to never give up, to try my hardest, and to never listen to what others have to say to you. My mom is my biggest influence so I will always listen to her because if I didn't listen to her I wouldn't be where I am today.

AD Video Clip

I chose this youtube video talking about the American Dream because it explains what the American Dream is. The title is called "The American Dream; Is it still alive?" By Samuel J. Abrams. The point of this video is of Samuel explaining to us what the American dream is and whats the point of it. I chose this video because it shares that the american dream is NOT only for certain groups its for everyone to share and experience. This explains my thesis because people deserve to live their lives as they chose not as others want them to live their lives. And it means that you shouldn't care what people say about you, that you should do you. And what your heart desires cause it's YOUR dream not anyone elses.

AD Song

The song I chose was "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye. The background to this song was that when Marvins' brother got back from Vietnam he noticed his outlook had changed. So he had wrote a song that stands among the most tuneful works of American music. This song supports my statement because no matter what people are always gonna think the American Dream only applies to certain groups of people when it applies to everyone in the world. I feel like I could relate to this song only because with personal experience people judge others so quick and it's so sad because they don't know the real you only the you they want to know.
