Charlie is the main character who is presented as sensitive, introverted, and deeply affected by his past trauma. The motivations revolve around trying to find his sense of self, trying to deal with in the present as well. Charlies role was to be both an observer and be apart of the coming-of-age experiences of high school.

Example:

The letter about his aunt, who had been molesting him. (Pg 204-209)

Losing his best-friend. "His mom played bridge with one of Michaels neighbors and they heard a gunshot. I don't really remember much after that except, my older brother came to Mr. Vaughns office in my middle school and told me to stop crying."

The tone of " The Perks of being a Wallflower" is introspective, earnest, and at times melancholic. The author used first person narration through the protagonist, Charlie, to create a deeply personal reflective tone. In the letters Charlie's writes he reveals his inner thought, struggles, and observations about life with raw honesty. The story reflects on his past and his current experiences giving the readers a close look at his emotional journey.

10 stars out of 5. I love the book and I love the movie. However, the book pointed out and expressed so much more than the movie. It truly went into detail about every little thing and the emotions Charlie felt. It truly was a first person narrative. The book also shows what a true day to day teenager truly goes through and the trauma they have to carry.
