* He set sail from Portugal, and
he and his crew were the first group from Europe to try to sail around the world across the Atlantic Ocean and around South America
*  Going around South America they were attacked and one of the five ships on the voyage got wreaked
* The other four ships crossed the Pacific Ocean and landed in Guam in March of 1521
* In a battle between Magellan's crew joined with Humabon against a Philippine leader on April 27, 1521 during that battle Magellan was killed
 * After he died the rest of his crew made it to Asia
