<title>The American civil rights movement was a mass protest movement against racial segregation and discrimination in the southern United States during the mid-1950s. Although American slaves were emancipated in 1860s, the black population still had to fight for their rights as citizens. This was especially true in the southern states where there local authorities imposed segregation policies. The movement involved afro-american and some white people who organized non-violent protests in many American cities. </title>
