The following is a review of taser deployments during 2014. We will provide reasons for deployments, use of force, case studies, relevant legislation, and the liabilities involved. Along with room for improvement.

The total number of operational taser deployments in 2014 amounted to a 9% decrease, this has led to believe that the implementation of the Taser weapon could be considered to be trending downwards.

Why is it right/ wrong to use tasers.

Tasers provide a from of protection to the police when they are on duty. However there are times when police use poor judgement and use the taser when it is not needed.

An example of it being wrong is in the article where a 12yr old boy was tasered by police as it is believed that the 12yr old was trying to escape from police. As a result the officer said it was a 'spit second decision' to try and catch the child he used the taser to stop the child from running.

In terms of it being right, police had to taser a 16yr old boy who appeared to be holding a gun. The police later checked the gun and found it to be a replica. However police have to use reasonable force to arrest the suspect and could not take the risk if the gun was real and used against police.
