Autobiography 1 : artist research and experimenting.
A key part of GCSE art is artist research and experimenting with materials and techniques. Artist research involves researching an artist which inspires students work and creating outcomes of their work and your own versions of this. The first half of year 9 teaches students how to do this effectively. Students create their own responses to many different artists. The artists and movements covered in the first part of year 9 include Turner, Monet and the Impressionists and Van Gogh and the post Impressionists. Students will get to experiment with dry and wet media including watercolour, acrylic and oil paints. The project will allow students to choose their favourite approach and subject matter and develop their ideas and produce their own outcome.

They also explore the importance of context of texts, and the significant role context plays in audience understanding and dramatic devices. Students enjoy exploring who really is to blame for the death of Eva Smith and explore themes of accountability, social class, capitalism and socialism.
