Genre Conventions

wjiaao — 2014-09-26 08:20:27 UTC

This is a music magazine.Because they want to stand out the main character in this magazine--the American country singer Taylor Swift,so they only put her own picture over the masthead, let the main image fills up the whole page of the magazine,it use the medium close up.Also, they want to let the audience know who is this magazine write about,so they put the name in white(they use the contrary colour to the cover line，white and black echo each other over a distance, making the image more adjective. ) "Taylor Swift" in the lower right corner with the evaluation. There are some entertainment news about music are all on the left as well,of course, the bar code is in the lower left corner.

Masthead

wjiaao — 2014-09-26 08:57:59 UTC

The title of this magazine is in the top---Billboard.Here the mast head is large, and the main colour black fits in with the decorate colour-- bright red, blue and yellow.I think these colours have been contrast with each other but goes well together. Also, less magazine use such many colours with the masthead, this bright colour will help the magazine attract audiences as well.

Visual Style

wjiaao — 2014-09-26 09:22:28 UTC

The main colour of this magazine is light brown and grey. The news in green and white can make audience(reader) read more easier. In my opinion, these colours are a quite good choose, because this magazine is for a country singer,so they use some natural colour to show what kind of singer she is,and another good thing is large cover image. It is quite big so the audience can easy to know who is the main character of this magazine ,if it small, nobody will spend time to find it,it is bad for selling.Last, from the date line we can know the text is about some latest news and some articles about business.

Font Analysis

wjiaao — 2014-09-28 13:49:28 UTC

They use the normal font, but the colour is classics and special---black,white and green. This is a music magazine,so the bright colour gives it a fresh, popular style, the black and white show official and serious .

Themes

wjiaao — 2014-09-28 15:18:47 UTC

I think the main story in this magazine is about Taylor Swift takes her music global and some experience of her. In this magazine,I think they will put some successful musician 's experience and what makes them become such success for people study.

Features

wjiaao — 2014-09-28 15:40:04 UTC

In this magazine,I think the special feature is the "plus".In other words, except the main story and some latest entertainment news, they also provide some other interesting articles.

Bar code

wjiaao — 2014-09-28 15:48:37 UTC

The bar code of this magazine is same as other magazine. It is on the front page of the magazine near the bottom.

Audience devices

wjiaao — 2014-09-28 15:53:29 UTC

First, I think the main character of this magazine is very clear,so it maybe can attract the fans of Taylor.Second, the genre of the magazine is reasonable, and the colour of the font and the cover image can fit well.Third, the details of this magazine is abundant----"what the credit crisis means for touring branding startups","Best Buys","4 tips for a DIY release" and so on, these details make the magazine more colourful and it also can fit more kinds of audience. These magazine maybe attract teenager music fans, because Taylor Swift is a younger singer, and because her lyrics is very real, caused a lot of people's sympathy,so she won many teenager fans' heart. You can also see there have a article named "Brits pop",so it may targeted another group of fans from 14---30 or more older.

puff

wjiaao — 2014-09-29 12:41:20 UTC

I know the puff is promoting the covers that can be collected in the magazine, this can attract an audience who maybe interested in them covers and into buying the magazine. But unfortunately, this magazine didn't have a puff,so in my opinion, this magazine maybe can't attract the customers like other magazine which have a red bing puff on it

Date Line

wjiaao — 2014-09-29 12:54:16 UTC

The date line of this magazine is over the bar code. The date line is help you know whether the magazine recently ,whether it have the latest news

wjiaao — 2014-09-29 13:02:09 UTC

Use of space

wjiaao — 2014-09-29 13:05:08 UTC

From the content page we can see, they put the masthead and the date line in the top right corner, and they put some main picture on the right, and the text on the left.It puts the largest image in the middle of the page.I think this image can work in concert with the text"Christmas in July",because it is not hard to see from the clothes in red and white(the sample colour in Christmas)which the woman wear, also you can find out from the candy cane. This large bright image can give audience a lively, warm feel ,also attract audience's eyes to the main content "Chiristmas in July".

Font and type size

wjiaao — 2014-09-30 14:23:35 UTC

The font of this page have 3 different size.First we can see they use the biggest size in the headline(contents),and then, they use the middle size in the main content, they also use the bold.Last they use the smallest size in some common details.By the way ,we also can see they use the main colour blue in some plus news or special articles and they write the phrase " cover story" in green, its colour is same as the font in the cover. These colour can goes well with each other, although the content is only one page

Plus:

wjiaao — 2014-09-30 17:20:21 UTC

Billboard always just have one cover image, and the colour is can fit the singer's style well,so this magazine can easy attract some fans who love music or some fans of the cover image. There are some example.
